Help Please!

What are the bare essentials to survive one night on a local playing field with DH, and 2 DC's (5 and 4) camping in a group of other local families??? BBQ provided, so no cooking equipment needed.

Obviously a tent of suitable size, sleeping bags, warm clothing, drinking water and snacks... Will we need mats/cushions to lie on? Anything else crucial?

Any other handy tips to make the whole experience work for us all, but without taking the kitchen sink??

Thanks so much, and sorry for being an ignoramus, but we have to start somewhere!

wine is essential

will you not want a cooker to boil water for coffee in the morning? Or would a flask do if you are literally just staying from teatime until the following morning?

also breakfast essentials (bacon butty/sausage sandwich is mandatory in the panda tent, but cereal and milk would do!)

PandaG · 15/06/2010 18:54

camping chairs would make the experience more pleasant, failing that a rug or mat to sit on

Batteryhuman · 15/06/2010 18:55

Torch and more wine and chocolate, lots of chocolate

Slubberdegullion · 15/06/2010 18:55

A torch or some other form of lighting.

PandaG · 15/06/2010 18:57

would advise airbeds or self inflating mattresses to sleep on, or duvets/cushions if you can fit them in and don't want to spend the money

anonymousbird · 15/06/2010 18:57

Bless you all. Breakfast is apparently provided (this is seriously non-hardcore camping!) but torch, yes of course, and mats/some kind of seating is another good call.

Pack of wipes. Quick face and hands before bed and your done (or you can just go to bed a bit dirty )

Slubberdegullion · 15/06/2010 19:00

gah
you're done

Camping essentials:

  • large strong bucket (multi-uses)
  • headtorch
  • sleeping mat of some kind as the ground is very very very cold at night
  • biscuits, chocolate, crisps, wine, magazines, newspaper, books
  • toilet paper (they always run out)
  • flipflops for that long walk to the loo (or see 'bucket' above)
  • wet wipes
  • solar light for putting outside the tent if your kids might be off playing during twilight - so they know where 'home' is
  • some kind of lantern to light the living area
  • playing cards

Plus of course, tent, sleeping bags, pillow cases (put jumpers inside if space is too tight for actual pillow), something to sit on (see 'bucket' above), something to eat off and with, cups for wine, hot drinks and tooth brushing water.
