Staying warm at night - how do you?

Have only camped in the summer hols before, so, in August. Was warm enough in just pj's and sleeping bag.

Last week went camping. Weather gorgeous, really hot in the day - at night in the sleeping bag I was freezing. So I put on pj's, a fleece, a sweatshirt, got in sleeping bag and put 2 more open sleeping bags over me, and was not as cold as the night before but not that warm either.

What can I do to make sure I am ok next time. the kids were cold too.

Have posted this on another thread - you could try a couple of foil blankets at the bottom before the plastic backed blankets go on top.

They really do keep the cold out.

Second the foil blanket - a bit like the things they wrap around marathon runners at the finish line. They are very cheap, mine was £1 from Tesco a few years back.

I put it under my airbed to prevent it filling with cold air from the ground. Toasty!

All 5 of us dp,myself dtwins 6 and dd 5 have the Outwell Camper Lux sleeping bags, very warm, they're brilliant!!!!!

They're soft and cosy too. All of us just wore pjs, nothing else, even on a couple of quite cold nights.Highly recommend them.

Fiday and saturday night were really cold, we had hot water bottles, as recommended by someone, it was lovely to get into a warm bed. Will definatly add them to my camp kit.

just back from a cold weekend away. we had 10 degree sleeping bags plus one blanket over and one under. was comfy in theory. unfortunately dd was a bit unsettled so slept in my arms which meant that that arm and shoulder got really cold indeed.

Sorry to dither - the foil blankets were a bit of a find. They were in the car care section and came with a spiel about putting them in the boot in case you have an accident in the winter and need to sit next to the motorway while help arrives.
