There are 3 of us, but might have some friends visit.

Only weekends - 1/2 nights at the moment, as we havent actually been before

Oh and we are in Scotland if it makes any difference?

Many Thanks!

The 1st one Hi Gear Zenobia is the one my sil used once and charity shopped, all the tent poles snapped, they froze and I think it was a nightmare to put up. Have just checked the pics she sent and almost 100% certain that was the one.

MilaMae · 11/06/2010 19:40

It had Hi Gear Zenobia on it and I'm sure it's the same model.

PandaG · 11/06/2010 19:44

I'd go for the mojave or the Icarus. SIL has the Icarus, it pitches fairly quickly and seems a sturdy tent.

omydarlin · 11/06/2010 19:51

ive heard people rave about the icarus before - well seen..poss on camping and caravanning forum

piglips · 11/06/2010 19:53

friend had the icarus with an added canopy and that setup was almost my perfect tent.
only downside was there was alot of movement in high winds.

Lilyloo · 11/06/2010 20:09

I have a vango and love it , although friend has the hig gear and they have fab windows!

Wiggletastic · 11/06/2010 20:15

I would go for the Vango Icarus, it is likely to be better quality then the Hi-Gear tents plus I think that style of tent, with sleeping area at the rear and living space at the front with large door opening out at the front is a better set-up than the tunnel types with only a side door. We have a Vango and we have never had any problems with it. Also, that's a really good price for this type/quality of tent.

lunavix · 11/06/2010 20:25

Someone is selling an icarus on the 5/6 berth tent thread. I think out of the three the vango is def in the lead.

However I've had a nose (looking for something similar) but I prefer the living area on the boston 600 which you can get some good deals on too, and is in the same price range. Bedrooms bigger too, as it's a 6 berth.

nixpix · 12/06/2010 07:49

I have an Easycamp boston 600 and would recommend, it's light(ish) to carry up and downstairs where I store it, lots of living space - like the big windows as it makes it feel even more spacious and airy, good sleeping area, v easy to put up (big consideration as had to get a reluctant DP on board) and it stood up no problems to torrential rain in Wales. Only negative thing I can say is that you can't seal the bottom of the door area, so if windy it lets in a draft.
got it with footprint for £185

nixpix · 12/06/2010 07:59

Had to think where I got it from as got it online, just looked and I got it from www.outdoorexperience.co.uk, they are now offering with free footprint and carpet but it says call for pricing.

ClareV · 12/06/2010 09:31

We've just bought the vango icarus (6 person one) - not been away in it yet, but put it up in the garden and so far it is fab. Really easy to put up (3 equal length poles so no confusion), lots of room inside.
I don't know anything about the others, but love the icarus.

Ineed2 · 12/06/2010 19:22

Have you been on ukcampsites and read the reviews, they are usually quite usful. sorry can't do links.

I am choosing between 3 tents to
1] Sunncamp Evolution 400
2] Outdoor Revolution starcamper 4
3] Outwell virginia 5.
Its really hard to choose isn't it.

MargaretAtwood3660 · 12/06/2010 19:42

Not sure, Geordie - just spent that on a second hand outwell!

Ineed, I have the starcamper and it is fantastic. HTH!

MargaretAtwood3660 · 12/06/2010 19:42

but ours is the 5 I think.

geordieminx · 12/06/2010 20:51

I've been looking at 2nd hand outwells too - the thought being that if we decide that camping isnt for us, we'll be able to sell it, and not loose much/anything at all.

The outwell that I really fancy is the Montana 6, but they are going for £300+, also like Idaho and Hartford L too, but tbh I am just chasing my tail with ebay - esp as most are collection only - have bid on a few but not won anything.

Yes good thinking...we were lucky, ours has only been put up once and never slept in or rained on - it's basically almost as new though the case is a bit bashed.

it's the sun valley 6. Paid 180 and they go for about twice that i think.

Try preloved and gumtree for your area, too.

i wanted this one as it has really good reviews everywhere - always a good sign. Also had found a half price kids room that fits it, so it had to be this one! lol

just discovered it is definitely too big for our garden...and nearly got crushed putting it up.

geordieminx · 12/06/2010 21:02

Oooo they do kids rooms for the Sun Valley?? Tell me more!

OP posts:
MargaretAtwood3660 · 12/06/2010 21:22

They do kids' rooms for most of them tbh.

Have a google! Apparently they are all slightly different though, which is irritating - I initially thought it would fit all of them.

finding carpet to fit it is another story though..

Ineed2 · 12/06/2010 21:32

Thanx MA we already have an outdoor revolution scenic 7, it is our family tent, they are really good but I can't put it up on my own, thats why I am looking at the starcamper 4

MargaretAtwood3660 · 12/06/2010 21:47

you will be fine with that one. I can manage the 5 very easily.

3rdnparty · 13/06/2010 09:28

we got the outwell virginia and is ok to do on my own, I would say is more of a 4 than a 5 person a could only get 2 thermarests and a double airbed in the pods... haven't been through heavy rain yet but seemed well made..hth

Flighttattendant · 13/06/2010 12:04

I'm not entirely sure how ours is a 6 berth, come to think of it!
There are two sleeping tents and each would prob hold a double mattress. I eman, you could squeeze three in each but they would have to be like a load of students or something, you couldn't really put a couple plus one other in the same pod

geordieminx · 13/06/2010 14:50

Well.... I'm back!!!!

We were almost decided on a Mojave, although dh still preferred the Zenobia, then as we were looking at the Icarus again, a woman who was also looking mentioned a price match with Gaynors - so we went for that, and as GoOutdoors do the price match + 10% thing, we got the tent, carpet and footprint for £150 - bargin or what?

OP posts:
lunavix · 13/06/2010 17:48

ooooooooh
did you do that over the phone or instore?

lunavix · 13/06/2010 17:48

nixpix - can you put the easy camp up on your own?
