Bell tent query - Riven? Anyone?

Hi -we have put up our new bell tent up in the garden and very glorious it is too - I have a query though (dd is having her lunchtime nap in it - its soo sweet ) - well 2 queries actually:

What do you do about flies and bees - we have quite a collection at the top of the tent and also dh has managed to pull the zip apart at the top of the entrance - how easy is it to fix?

Can't help, but your post brings back glorious memories of Guide camp, all sleeping clockwise around the centre pole!

How wonderful!

it is lovely alibubbles - I know purists hate the fact its up in the garden and not at a campsite but actually its proving really useful for nonsunburnt dcs...

omnishambles, how old is your tent? Would it be worth calling the shop where you bought it from to see whether the zip is still covered if so new?

omnishambles · 24/05/2010 15:09

Its about 3 weeks old - trouble is I think it was clearly dh's fault as the tension was all wrong when he zipped it up and he didnt realsie how careful you had to be - its not broken per se its come apart at the top iyswim.

Umm... not sure there's much you can do about the flies, I'm afraid, other than try and catch them and chuck them outside!

Even if the tension was wrong on your tent I would expect the zips to hold up so I would try and contact the shop anyway to see if you can get it replaced/mended. If it's the zip itself that's come away from the canvas, maybe it would be possible for you to sew it back up yourself?

omnishambles · 24/05/2010 15:15

thanks steamed - I'll email them and see what they say. The zip hasnt come away its just come apart at the top - like a pair of boots so you cant start it off - hard to explain and I'm not doign a very good job of it...

Managed not to be cross with dh though - feel very smug about that.

Do bug deterrents work or should I just get an old fashioned kids fishing rod from the hardware shop and fish out all the bees?

I read about making a trap with an overturned bottle once, will see if I can find it again.

omnishambles · 24/05/2010 15:18

thanks MisSal - will have a read of that when I get back from the (scorching) school run.

Ah no, can't find the one I saw earlier, but this gives you an idea.

CrankyTwanky · 24/05/2010 16:12
