Depends on what kind of sleeping bag. Cheap, lightweight summer ones can just be shoved in the wash. But liners can add an extra bit of warmth anyway so are always useful. Silk ones are best for warmth, not sure whether cotton or silk would be easier to wash though, I imagine the former.
