keycamp by train? Any sites suitable? can it be done?

I'm thinking of a keycamp/canvas or similar holiday next year and wondering if it would be remotely feasible to go by train (we are miles away from ferry routes so fly/drive is the other option - I'd be keen to try to avoid flying).
Ideally we might go for a mountain/countryside site for a week and a coast site for a week (which would need to be walking distance or on the beach). Or, maybe a lake site could fit both needs...has anyone done this?

And, how easy is it to hire bikes that fit children? Mine will be 7 and 9 by then.

I think perhaps the answer is 'no'!
Maybe I'll bump in the morning!
