electric hookup

I have just managed to get a cancellation on a pitch over the bank hol (wahoooo!) but it's got an electric hookup, which I've never felt the need for before.

I think I've identified that I need to buy/borrow a Mobile Mains Supply Unit, but my burning question is - can I take my normal kitchen kettle to use or will it do something bad to the campsite? (I'm envisaging fire/darkness/brimstone etc.)

Ta very much

Hi there - will ask DP (electrician). They will specify an ampage - usually 10 or 16. Do you know which?

Back in a minute.

well DH says yes cause a kettle is only 240volts. (whatever that means)

if it helps when we take our camper with electric hook up we use a George forman grill, kettle and slow cooker on the leccy (although not all at once)

Ivykaty44 · 19/05/2010 22:21

but make sure you don't have anything else on at the same time

Check your kettle - there'll be a wattage marked somewhere.
Check the ampage on campsite.
My kettle is 1850-2200W. If the site has a 10 Amp supply, then it will supply 10A x 240V = 2400W - so my kettle would be good on a 10 Amp supply. On a 16Amp site it would be 16A x 240V = 3840W (!) so as long as your kettle needs less than 3840W it will be fine. Ditto all other appliances but don't boil the kettle & run the hairdryer at once!!

HTH Have a fab holiday

Oh, fabulous, won't have to go without my morning cuppa.

Thanks folks.

Thanks for electric lesson too JetLi, have a dim & distant recollection of doing that at school.

No chance of using a hairdryer, I'm going to be the wild woman in the woods that weekend (or something).
