hi am looking at sites for Bank Holiday May 28/29 for 2 nights and every where seems fully booked. Do you have to book sites ages in advance?

Also overwhelmed looking at campsites do you know a good site that grades/reviews sites or aids in the search?

Thanks for your advice.

Ps. I rang a lovely woman in Eskdale Camping and Caravanning Club Site in Cumbria she was so warm and friendly.. I was so disappointed my tent was too big. She only has 5mx8m pitches left. Seemingly a five man tent takes up more room. Am so clueless.

I'm afraid you do need to need to book early for popular times and sites. Hmmmmmm. Have you tried looking at UKCS (UKcampsite)? That might be a good start.

I've just tried booking a site for that weekend -- if it turns out they do have pitches then I'll let you know.

You want www.ukcampsite.co.uk for reviews.

ukcs is the best place to start.

A lot of sites have started a 3 night min booking over BHs too.

How big is your tent? 5m x 8m is a pretty big pitch, or was that to include the guys too. C&CC have strict regulations on pitch size and spacing between tents (for fire safety). You have to expect most sites now will ask for your footprint size when you come to book (all the sites I have booked this year have). If your tent is very wide, or has pods then you may well be charged an excess or in some places have to book a double pitch.

Good luck with your search.

oh and try to go back to the Eskdale site another time. It's a FAB site.

am borrowing a tent to try out camping before we buy our own so that is why I am clueless re size. Will ring my friend tonight and get footprint size and try some more sites tomorrow.

Thanks for your help, will check out the sites too.
