Hello!
I can't remember what age my siblings and I moved out of the family tent into our own 2 person tents.
What have you done or what do you anticipate doing?
Just trying to figure out what kind of family tent we need in relation to the baby growing out of the travel cot/taking up more space, and the 6 year old moving into his own tent!
Thanks!
Clare

Hi, if you have chance jsut look at www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/acatalog/Aztec_Esquina_Mountain_Tent_.html we have used this tent for 3 years for our 2 children. I can put it up myself in about 10mins, its really easy. The girls have always been warm. dry and cosy. I have just had it repaired after the dog ripped the front door with his claws, and its still just as watertight. We always have the door of their tent facing ours but they go to sleep and no noise till the morning.. Hope this helps. louise@gaskell motorbodies.oom

What?!

When he is a grown up!

You don't need to worry about seperate tents when your eldest is 6!!!

Why would you want to move them into a seperate tent? How strange. If you're that concerned about being 'seperate' better to get a tent with two rooms.

No no no Overmydeadbody!!
The 6 year old is not going anywhere!!!!
Just wanting to buy a tent to last us a long time - so when he is 8, 9, 10 he might sleep in his own tent, or not (hard to know how I'd feel about it at the time, how he would feel, just trying to get an idea)???
The ones we were looking at had one big bedroom that could be subdivided. Probably wouldn't bother as they'd all end up in with us anyway.
Sunnyhirst - that was the kind of set up I was imagining - and that way don't need such a big 'family' tent in the long-run.
Thanks!

Ooo - I was just coming on here to ask this very question!!!

How old were your girls when you bought them the mountain tent (looks a good one BTW!) Sunnyhirst?

Well that's a relief Clare! lol

I think you don't need to worry about it until they are teenagers anyway

My DC are 9 and 10 and do NOT want to sleep in their own tent(s) yet!

We had a 6man tent and upgraded to an 8man tent last year so they can have a bedroom each and we have a spare room for all the crap!

Blimey I will not even let them sleep in a pod on their own (oldest 7). Even before the McCann disaster I was worried that someone would use a Stanley knife to cut the tent and steal them.

I may let DS sleep in a pod on his own when he is a gobby little bugger who can shout and wake up when moved. Right now he can be lifted out of my bed without waking, carried through the hall and down to his bedroom including several points where head knocking is unavoidable and still be unconscious when put into his cold bed.

I know, I know, paranoia about my children. I don't really care though. They are fine with it at the moment.

It's a different world isn't it - it was definitly by the age of 10 that I was in my own tent with my younger brother (then 8). Must ask my mum if she can remember.
Our current tent has 2 sleeping bits (like wings off an igloo) and the kids (5 and 1 last time we went) sleep across the way from us.
New tent will have us side-by-side.
BigTillyMint - we did look at an 8 man one which appealed for having a room to put the junk in!!! Trying to keep it compact though - maybe the junk can end up in a separate 2 man tent instead of the kids!!!
I appreciate your opinions, thanks!!

I think I was probably somewhere around 13 or 14 when I moved into my own tent. I was in the Guides and I won it in a competition. It was the smallest two man tent known to man and when we camped with our friends, we managed to get three teenage girls in there.

Happy days!
