We went to Hollands Wood last year, and it was fun but we were very lucky with our pitch - it would have been horrendous in the centre. Can anyone suggest a different campsite suitable for 18mth old and a dog? I prefer the quieter ones, need shade, happy to have it a bit rustic or manicured lawns.

Middle of the forest or by the sea.

Going to go out of school holidays, and should hopefully do a couple of trips before i give birth in autumn!

I can't wait to go again! So pleased with our new tent last year

i can not recommend longthorns enough

it is right next door to monkey world (so can here the monkeys) has animals to stroke and feed, an honesty shop so you never have to worry about running out of bread / milk (or biscuits / sausages / cheese / bacon)

and they do NOT cram you in at all

a brand new toilet block that opened Easter weekend, and a new shower block, new in May 2010, and all for £12 a night (2 adults 2 kids and no extra charge for dogs / car)
A shared fridge / freezer to keep stuff cold

the people who run it couldnt be nicer, oh and they have a farm shop delivery service so pretty much EVERY food / drink (local meats etc can all be delivered on any day to suit you straight to your tent!

i meant shower block was new in May 2009

I am looking to go to Burnbake near Studland, or is that too far? I have also been to Tom's Field, near Swanage, which is very well known and popular. It was good and the closest to the coastal path you can camp (although unless you wear LO on your back, I guess not much good to you!). I am also due to give birth in Autumn and desperate to do some camping this summer - have not been since I was pg with DS and he is now 3! We are even thinking of going this weekend and have been looking on another thread where OP asked if it was too cold - what do you think??

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 23/04/2010 13:02

Burnbake looks lovely! We get the ferry over most weekends - good call!

I have also been looking at Tom's field - heard great things and we are keen walkers. The only problem is that we are all very fair so I would prefer somewhere with more shade for LO. Still keen though.

Friends camped last weekend in the New Forest and said it was lovely - the days are hot and sunny at the moment and nights still cold, but they are budget campers (no heaters etc) and said they were fine. I'm not brave enough yet - the nights have had quite a chill still, few more weeks and I'll be out there!

When are you due? I'm on the 10/10 oct antenatal thread if you due then!

Oh cool, we have never got the ferry over and we have decided to definitely go tomorrow! We live near New Forest and we're still exploring! Burnbake has loads of trees, but you're right, Tom's Field did not have any shade.

Will let you know how we get on, am going to take hot water bottles! Am due 22/10 - have been on the pregnancy after miscarriage thread, but not the Oct one, so will join up.

Oh, and which campsite in the New Forest did they go to?

SeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 23/04/2010 21:29

Get to the ferry early, to avoid the queue- we aim for 9 then can chill once there.

They went to ashford and really liked it, but have been to many. I enjoyed hollands wood, they have enjoyed roundhill and red shoot.

We're Poole!Due 2nd.

Lots of people on our antenatal thread haven't had a smooth ride- I mc'd in oct. Go do the Friday five (qu) and dive in!
