Would you put your 8 and 10 year old in their own tent instead of with you?

It would depend entirely on the site tbh

Some yes absolutely, caravan and camping ones and their certificated onjes especially

Forest holidays or big holiday sites no chance

one adult in a tent each with a child? we do that when doing our overnighters down France.

Thinking of my own dc (7 and 9) I wouldn't. I'd have a parent in each tent instead.

I put my 6 and nearly 2 year old in a tent alone. Didn't realise it was such a no no. Ds1 begged and begged to be allowed in a tent with ds2, who he adores. and ds1 was very used to being in a tent on his own, say in our back garden, so i thought it was o.k.

Yes I would. Definitely.

Hi

We have been cycle touring with our kids, similar age (ds age 10 and dd 8) had same dilemma last year and also did not want to really carry 2 tents yet, having said that ds carried tent and sleeping bag on his bike so getting a bit easier!
Last year we got a lightweight tent from decathlon:
link here I hope

I think we got the T3 ultralight as they didnt have the T4 ultralight in stock, originally they said it was only available in france but it looks like this year you can order it online. Looks reasonable size and only 3.5kg.

It was fine for 3 nights tho fairly tightly packed! Will do the same again this year and then from next year we will probably take this tent and our lightweight 2man tent for the dc to sleep in. The bigger tent means a bit more room to shelter from the rain.....

Where are you going cycling? Always on the lookout for good family routes?

I would go one adult in each tent. I think if I'm not comfortable leaving them in the house on their own while going to the shops, I wouldnt put them in a tent on their own to sleep.
We have DD almost 4 and DS 5.5 and we wont even let them sleep in a separate bedroom. DD is in sleeping bag with me, DS with DH.
