Child on adult airbed panic - please reassure me

So we are going camping tomorrow and the new single airbed I ordered for DS has just arrived.

Unfortunately I was stupid enough to read the instruction manual and it says 'Do not let young children sleep on this airbed until they are mature enough to sleep in an adult bed. Young children can suffocate on adult beds including airbeds.'

DS is nearly 3. He sleeps in a cotbed (with the sides off). Tell me he will be ok and won't suffocate, please please. He's outgrown his My First Readybed...

He will be fine at almost 3. My dd's were in a 'real bed' by 18 months so I think that anything from about that age would be fine to sleep on an airbed. He will be absolutely fine. I am so jealous that you are going camping, we have blizzards at the moment so camping would definately be a no no here. Have fun

He will be fine! (Might roll off it if you over-inflate but that's the worst that could happen )

FWIW I am at the idea of a mobile child coming to any harm on an airbed! I think they must mean babies

jenduff · 31/03/2010 12:22

He'll be fine DD has slept on air beds since she was a toddler - I'm sure they must mean babies shouldn't sleep on them.

Thank you, thank you. And I think we might be going camping in blizzards...But anything to get out of cleaning my house.

Really grateful for the reassurance because I was having a major panic.

What gubbins! It's like the skewers I bought a while ago, that - for safety reasons - are blunt! Use your common sense, of course he won't suffocate.

Enjoy your trip.

Hope the rain eases for you. Else you'll be using the airbed as a lilo!

I know this thread is a few days old now, but for what it's worth, first ready beds are for over 2 year olds they say! They just have to over cover themsleves, tis all.
