Thinking of camping for 3 nights in the Lake District in June - Never been there before, and would like your recommendations as to a great place to camp.

Will be with DH and DS1 (age 5), DS2 (age 2).

Any ideas of places to stay and things to do while there???

Thankyou!

We've camped quite a few times in the Lake District and if you can go during school time so much the better! The National Trust campsite at Langdale has a family field with a very basic play area set in some trees in the middle. There's a basic shop on site with a village shop down the road and a couple of pubs too!
Of all the sites we've tried, this is the one I'd go back to (bear in mind we like QUIET and RELAXING!!)

Rydal Hall is pretty cool - tea room, adventure playground, gardens etc. Also close to pretty and easy cycle path to Ambleside (and fab Beatrix Potter Museum).

Also: Church Stile in Nether Wasdale Great views and fab local pub with games and excellent food!!

Have Fun!!

fisherground is great but very very busy during the school holidays. Loads to do for your DSes although they are probably a little young still for the rafts etc!

Have heard very good things about hollins farm in Eskdale - friend of mine says it's the best site she has ever stayed on!

You can't book at the National Trust one.
Shepherds view nr Seascale is really nice with good clean facilities but no play area just a huge field and sandy beach 20 mins walk away.
Park Cliffe near Bowness is nice too.

Oops - Beatrix Potter museum is in Bowness, a pleasant boat ride from Ambleside, not Ambleside itself! Great though, my 20 month old and nearly 4 year old ran round it really excitedly and then did the whole thing again but more slowly.

We love the Quiet Site near Ullswater, has a great field with adventure playground for children to play in, good facilities and a cosy bar with log fire if it gets cold and wet. (Also have wooden pods if you don't want to take your tent, might try that this year). Have a great trip.
