I've just received the Forestry Commision Camping and Caravanning brochure and wondered if anyone had tried any of their sites. Or could recommend one?

Hi,
We have stayed twice on their Spiers House site in North Yorks. The first time was on the opening weekend and it was a nightmare - totally disorganised and a muddy mess. We said we would never go back, however my DS won £50 vouchers in a competition so we went to the same site again last year for free.

It couldn't have been more different!
We had a wonderful time, the site was finished and on the Saturday night there was a bbq and childrens magician. The staff were really helpful and the toilets were spotless.
The setting in the forest is sooo peaceful (beware of the midges though)I would definitely recommend it.

We stayed at the Trossachs one last summer (can't remember what it is called). Midges a problem here too but the site was lovely. Cabins were clean and spacious.

We have also stayed at Spiers House. It was August bank holiday and was quite packed. But lots of open space for the kids to explore. As the others have said - the Midges were a bit of a problem but generally a good site overall.
