Anyone camped 1-2 hours from Calais with their own tent, that is good for teenagers AND toddlers?

Hello - this is my first post to MumsNet, so I hope I've got the format right, and that this question hasn't been asked too many times before....

We're planning to take the EuroStar to Calais this summer with our tent and our 5 children (15 years to 2 years) and would like to find a fairly quiet site that has something for all of them - maybe with a river/stream/pool for the older ones, and a play area for the younger ones or similar?

We don't want to drive for too long from Calais as one of them doesn't travel too well, so will probably manage an hour or two. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks.

PS - what a great site!

I got the new canvas brochure in the post and they had a couple of sites near Calais which I looked at. I don't know if you could book with the campgrounds directly?
Camping la Bien Assise (Guines - 10 miles to Calais)
Domain de Drancourt (St Valery - 80 miles to Calais).

I hope someone will pop by with more info... I thought this looked like an easy area to get to also. I've heard le Touquet is nice?

Bien Assise is a really nice site - great for seeing the area and as a stop over but not really for teenagers i don't think.

I'll have a think and get back to you - one of the big French sites might be better for your needs.

Welcome to MN and the friendliest section on the site

There is a place in Belgium, I belive, beautiful within a national park. Really nice site, and I remember letting dh and kids off on their own while I got dinner sorted, and dh phoning me saying "Quint, youve gotta come and see this, I have found a playground the size of DENMARK! It was based around a fake lake (swimming pool) with slides and jets. There was even a sort of pirate ship climbing and play frame.

Let me try and find it on the map.

Berny Riviere. We went this summer and was great. 3 pools including toddler pool and slides for older ones. Boating lake, river, play areas. Lovely.

MissGreatBritain · 04/01/2010 19:45

Have you found it Quint? It sounds fantastic

kiwibella · 05/01/2010 00:02

Quint... I want to play in that playground too !!!

Thank you all - Will look into the ones mentioned here and get booking! Would love to check out the one with the park the size of Denmark too, if you remember it Quint?

My dd loved Bien Assise, but she was 8-9 years old. My dad took her so it was just the two of them and they stayed on the site for about 7-8 days, dd had a ball, loved the entertainment enjoyed a lot of other children being around - and there were of all ages. Liked the childrens club and the pools.

Not that much to do in the area, but it worked out cheap cause they stayed on the site a lot of the time, going tinto the village to get bread.

I have stayed there twice but only for one or two nights, enjoyed the site but not that impressed with the surronding area.

we stopped in Brugges for a night on the way to Germany last year. It was about an hour's drive from Calais.

This site is v close to the centre of Brugges so you can cycle in & see the sights.

The camping is next door a small wood which has some activities in it (like gym apparatus/balancing,jumping,hanging stuff)

jmcq - we have stayed in this campsite - it was very v packed but lovely position for supermarkets and cycling into brugges! my dd's loved the swimming pool in the woods.

It is a great stopover for nederlands aswell
