We started camping as a family last year, DH and I did it pre kids but it's a bit different now. We had a few short trips and a two weeks holiday on the Isle of Wight here. We loved it. This year we want a similar campsite but without the ferry trip which added to the cost. So does anyone have any lovely UK campsites to share?
We are just south of London but willing to travel a bit, would consider Cornwall but only for perfect site IYSWIM. We like quiet, basic campsites but they do need to have good toilets / showers, pref disabled toilet due to DS1's disability. Also ideally near a beach or two and lots of other things to do!
The children are 4 and 2, although will be 3 and 5 by next summer and have already asked when we are going camping again so I thought I may as well start looking. So where have you loved...

Yes, I am alreday dreaming of our camping holiday this summer too...

I'd recommend 'Cool Camping England' or the Welsh and Scottish versions for recommendations. Having said that, the really popular sites get booked up very early. Clippesby hall in Suffolk is meant to be fantastic but I've never been able to book!

We've also used The Camping & Carvanning sites which are always excellent; clean, friendly and noty overly pricey. We stayed at the site in Sandringham which is near beaches, anad it was wonderful.

Happy planning

WoodyHyde between Swanage and Corfe Castle in Dorset. Campsite is quiet, fairly basic but has hot showers, a washing up sink and a shop. It is on the Steam Railway line which DS (4) loved. Not sure about disabled toilet though. Lots to do in that area - castles, beaches, walking, railway etc. Is fab.

Anyone got any other recommendations in the South?

Little Meadow near Ilfracombe is lovely but gets booked up very early.

Bagwell Farm, Weymouth?

Wilksworth Farm? - larger site with pool, has disabled showers etc.

PS - Glad you enjoyed Carpenters Farm

Weymouth is perfect for me, thank you!

WoolyHide is good but Tom's Field near Swanage is even better for a basic campsite.

I miss camping

We started camping last year. Our neighbour gave us his caravan.
He had it at the insidepark and so went there too. what a great place. so we booked all our weeks for next year.
Infact, I can't wait to get back to work, to book my time off.
Is it rude to do it at 9.01 am on the first day back

Oblomov · 29/12/2009 10:30

Inside looks big, but is actually small. lovely. basic but not too basic. shop, disabled toilet/shower, good shower block, play area for kids - ds1(%) rode his bike around freely. Close to Bournemouth beach and Sandbanks - tres posh(30 mins in car) and big tescos within walking.
I think it may suit you. suits us.

Oh thanks everyone! Milliways was it you who recommended Carpenter's Farm last year? It was brilliant! Just what we needed - we were so impressed, thank you!

Have had a look at a few of these, has anyone been to Clippesby Hall? I think I may do a search of old messages.
WoodyHyde looks good, will look at your recommendation too OMDB.

Oblamov that looks good too!

Any more??
