Just wondering as it gets good reviews. We have 3 young children under 5 and really want to go to a campsite in the south of France that wouldnt be too hectic. Any other suggestions welcome!

We went to Criques de Porteil Aug 2009.It was a disaster. We booked a large pitch for an odd shaped tent and on arrival found that our pitch had a large tree in the middle which made it impossible to pitch the tent. The alternatives offered were what looked like a buiding site with rubble and no vegetation or a pitch at the back of the restaurant which looked like the place they had formerly kept the bins. The site was really busy and the 2 tiny swimming pools grossly inadequate for the number of people. They were a bubbling mass of bodies. The site is also next to the TGV line so I assume there would be noise from that. There are steep steps down to the beaches which were rocky and therefore probably not great for small kids. Some of the better pitches were down these steps-with the obvious disadvantage that all your camping gear needed to be carried up and down the steps. The site was clean and tidy and the loos clean. The shop was very small. We cut our losses and left. The site definitely misrepresented what they offered us and refused to return our fairly hefty deposit. We have spent a number of years looking for a good campsite on the Med and I have come to the conclusion that the standards are lower than elsewhere in France and they can pack you in like sardines just because of the location. The best we have found in the Etoile D'Argent near Frejus. The pitches are decent size with good hedges round and there is a little boat that takes you down to the beach and back. The swimming pools are excellent and there are free tennis lessons for kids. However it is not perfect-the restaurant isn't great and the site takes dogs so watch where you step!!Just a thought.Enjoy your holiday whatever you choose.
