Talk to me about camping tables/kitchens

I know there are better things to do on a Friday night but I am costing up the whole camping thing despite the horror stories

A table to sit round to eat/play cards etc -is it best to have a roll up top on a table and why would I need that? There are only 4 of us, me, dh, ds1 aged 6 and ds2 aged 3. So we don't need anything huge.

Also camping kitchen, do I need somewhere to hook up a lantern? I know to get one with a wind break

I know there will be much more interesting threads to read and answer but it is worth a shot

I've got this one which when I opened it is white? but anyway, I used it at the weekend and it's fab. very sturdy

I would recommend it and anyway if you get it from Argos you could try it at home in the garden or wherever and if you don't like it take it back.

The legs actually come off and clip on so it is very slim and i put it in the boot first then piled neatly stacked everything else on top.

Off to Go Outdoors to drool over camping gear later and have just arranged to camp in our friend's back garden for our first camping expedition over the bank holiday. They live nearly 200 miles away but they camp with children younger than mine. Brave souls.

whatever you do, don't get the blue camping table they are selling off cheap in tesco with the stools attached. I had a little sit on it on Thursday - at which point it creaked loudly and then lurched dramatically before collapsing on the floor. the shame of all of the aisle looking at me sprawled on the floor - avoid avoid!!

we've got this one its quite pricey but well worth the money

the leg of the benches and table adjust so if your on a slope/uneven ground then you can adjust them so its all perfectly level - very handy!!

i'd also second to steer clear from the blue one its rubbish

We have the same one as sparkles except it was made by sunncamp then. (about 2 years ago). Also it has foam padded removable covers for the benches...which are actually the carrying bag. It's very pricey (69 quid a few years back) but very good. Benches are really handy for extra movable seating.

yeah thats what ours is like too troutpout, it all folds up to fit in the bag/seat covers, its great to put in the boot to take out as its light to carry and not too bulky

Really daft question from camping newbie , Do you carry your clothes in ordinary holdalls/rucksacks, presumably not suitcases as too cumbersome ?

We took our clothes in plastic boxes (v. useful when the tent leaked or the condensation dripped.!). It was handy to be able to see stuff easily and keep everyone's things seperate.

Next time I would have one box per person, we shared and it all turned into a jumble except for DH who had his own box
