When packing the car, do you always have a "oh that'll squash in between the DC in the back" item?

Because I have 5.

Pillows

Cool box

Gubbins and paraphenalia for the beach.

Washing up bowl-come up-chuck bowl.

Bags of books/toys for the dc.

It's not all going to fit between the dds is it?

goddamn you camping stuff

yep, sleeping bags under DC, pillows around their legs in footwells.... shoes etc in car door pockets and loads packed around the dog crate!

Slubberdegullion · 17/07/2009 14:33

I have all the space around them already accounted for with bags of clothes, sleeping bags etc. There is a 60cm gap between their car seats for all the rest of the stuff on the list...that or DH is going to have to do a seriously good roof box pack tomorrow morning.

Oh he is going to be thrilled.

yes... another child

MadreInglese · 17/07/2009 14:35

roofbox

MadreInglese · 17/07/2009 14:35

ah whoops, xposts

We have three, so not much extra room but...

DSs sit on our quilt, and have various pillows to lean on.

Coolbox lives in front of DD, rucksack of fragile items is on the floor between DSs feet.

DH usually ends up with something between his feet too.

Being the driver I get nothing (except the sweets in the side of my door...)

The cool box

Slubberdegullion · 17/07/2009 14:44

Do you reckon I could make some sort of padded suit around the dds with the pillows, blankets and sleeping bags and just give them a small port hole for their faces? Or maybe a straw poking though?

At least that would stop them squabbling.

Now our DC's don't need their car seats, we can stuff even more under and around them - yay!

Slubberdegullion · 17/07/2009 14:50

bronze has reminded me this is a very good reason not to have any more children.

we tend to squash the kids in round the camping gear shut the boot and hope for the best

Slubberdegullion · 17/07/2009 15:23

lol gardeningmum, now that is an approach I had not considered before

serenity, "rucksack of fragile items is on the floor between DSs feet"

not that fragile then

4andnotout · 17/07/2009 16:10

Our tent goes between the dc's

My van is liable to explode camping equipment half way across the channel!

nikkid21 · 17/07/2009 16:39

coolbox and one of the 40l flexi tubs full of food go inbetween them. They also gnerally have the wine & beer under thier feet.

Slubberdegullion · 17/07/2009 17:01

shit! wine! aaaargh

MadreIngles.... got a roof box..... got a trailer....
there is never enough room!

serenity · 17/07/2009 20:15

Ponders -I typed fragile because I didn't want to admit to having a rucksack containing various DSs, CDs and DVDs (too many camping trips involving long protected periods of evening rain and stircrazy children, we now go prepared)

So no not that fragile, but a little bit embarrassing

Stinkyfeet · 17/07/2009 20:22

When I was a child, the 3 of us would have to get in the car about half an hour before departure, and the car was packed around us!!
