Tell me about bell tents

I have read the threads on here about bell tents and we are desperate for one.

But would love to hear more from bell tent owners/users what the advantages and disadvantages are?

We would be getting a 5m one, btw, as we have 4 children, and probably no inner tent as I find tent bedrooms very annoying!

I've been researching it all day long, Riven.

I've found that the amazon one is made by a company called Ultrafit. I've not found any reviews for them at all, but I get the impression for what I have found that they are a budget tent company.

I kind of figured that for the sake of 35 quid odd, it probably wasn't worth the risk, when the obelink ones come so highly recommended all over the place (have looked on other camping forums too).

If you're worried about ordering in dutch, I did what someone on here recommended somewhere - opened a window with the UK site in www.tent-tents.com and then did a 'dummy' order of a random thing at the same time as doing the real order on the dutch site (apart from putting payment details in etc.!). I also had babelfish open in one window to translate anything I was having extra trouble with.

It wasn't that much hassle - have a go!

Bugger! I just found the website for cyber checkout (the company selling the bell tents on amazon) and they're £333 on their main website and on their ebay shop. I reckon they must be the same quality

Quick, Riven, get the one off Amazon - don't make the same mistake I did!

no, it doesn't I don't think - in fact I'm pretty certain you have to buy it separately.

Oh, don't know about that. I would assume that they do because aren't they the same tent? or have belltent.co.uk changed supplier to one that does the inner bedrooms?

We don't want the bedroom so doesn't bother us.

You need someone with an obelink one to come and answer you

I want one too - but we only got our big tent last year and I'm just leaving a decent interval

What I want to know is if you don't have an inner tent, don't you have a bug problem at night? And what are the inner tents like - are they also canvas, or what? and are they little pods/rooms that take up only part of the area like in other large tents, or is it just one big one for the whole thing?

flamingobingo · 04/07/2009 21:03

From the photos, it's the back half of the tent, muffle.

the Amazon one appears to have a central pole that is only 1.5m tall. It says '1.5 mm t'but I think that must mean metres tall.

belltents for example say their central pole is 3m tall.

trilobite · 05/07/2009 07:36

I don't know the answer about the Obelink tent and the inner tent because i wasn't specifically looking when we put it up. But it does have a loop at the top of the pole which i assumed was for attaching the inner tent to. And i think i have read on other threads that it can be done. will check when we go camping next weekend.

Riven, there's a big thread on ukcampsite.com about bell tents and it seems that it is possible to attach the inner to the obelink tent. Don't take that as gospel, but thought you'd be interested to read that!

Has the money been taken according to paypal?

OP posts:
trilobite · 05/07/2009 17:04

oh, that happened to me. i emailed them and said i had paid by paypal and they replied (in english) saying that the order was being processed. so i think it must be an automated response.

Me too! Ours will both be in the same shipment

Although it matters less to me that it's here by Friday, except we can go to my parents big garden to put it up on Sunday if it has arrived by then!
