we just camped in York, it was amazing to sit out in the evening without being mugged by wee beasties...

..and now you tell me there's no midgies!

brokenspacebar · 02/07/2009 18:31

I lived there ngdb there are midges in that part of the world.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 02/07/2009 20:21

good, because i've bought the skin-so-soft, and i'm determined that it'll work.

AitchTwoOh · 02/07/2009 20:22

eeeh aitch..york isnt in scotland.. unless the scottish parliament have staged a coup this afternoon

nevergoogledragonbutter · 02/07/2009 20:26

yes, i was initially concerned that you thought york was in scotland.

we were being polite in not mentioning it.

AitchTwoOh · 02/07/2009 20:27

i know that, fm, thank ee very mooch. we were in york, camping... it was so pleasant not to have to put up with being bitten or slathering ourselves in greaseball stinky shite. (and yes, i do mean skin-so-soft).

AitchTwoOh · 02/07/2009 20:28

tsk. you CAN read, can't you db?

OP posts:
nevergoogledragonbutter · 02/07/2009 20:35

aye

expatinscotland · 02/07/2009 20:36

she's right about skin-so-soft making you feel greaseball, though. and if it gets in your hair it's soooo rank.

AitchTwoOh · 02/07/2009 20:39

for the record, can i poiint out that dr hauschka's sun tan lotion also contains citronella and smells heavenly? we used this last time in midgie heaven (ayrshire) and didn't get bitten. however, the stoopid EU has insisted it be taken off the market so you have to buy up old stock.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 02/07/2009 21:10

wonder if i can get it from the US. i'll see and then if you want i'd be happy to get you some more, Aitch.

AitchTwoOh · 02/07/2009 21:12

i think they're just not making it any more. poxy eu.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 02/07/2009 21:15

fuck! that sucks!

why did the EU have a problem with it?

i hate to have to get the DEET + sunscreen stuff from the US but it's the only thing that works and isn't greasy.

AitchTwoOh · 02/07/2009 21:17

it's because they were using the australian uva meter (not the right word but ykwim) and if they were to use the euro guidelines they'd have had to put in some wierdy ingredients. annoying.

midnightexpress · 02/07/2009 21:18

dr hauschka.

I was gutted. We used it on the DCs and it was great.

expatinscotland · 02/07/2009 21:22

i get to sick of that EU shit sometimes. that's why Lupe Pintos can't import monterrey jack cheese anymore. bastard!

AitchTwoOh · 02/07/2009 21:23

lol expat monterey jack tastes like shit. lolol.
i live near lupe pintos, you know. best chorizo out there imo.

OP posts:
midnightexpress · 02/07/2009 21:25

Oh yy aitch. We have to make regular treks to Gt Western Road for cooking chorizo. Though we did get a damn fine one in Waitrose recently too.

expatinscotland · 02/07/2009 21:25

oh, aitch.

how can you say that about jack cheese? it's one of the only ones i like. and now she can't get it in. and some other stuff, too.

dammit.

AitchTwoOh · 02/07/2009 21:29

i buy loads of them and freeze them. they defrost really quickly, in fact it's easier to get the skin off when they're a bit harder.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 02/07/2009 21:34

I buy loads of them and freeze them, too.

and the canned green chile/salsa verde.

and Zartrain's red beans and rice.

expatinscotland · 02/07/2009 21:35

great for breakfast with scrambled eggs and corn tortillas.
