Hi

We're got the chance of getting a discount going to La Carabasse campsite with Haven holidys. We're hoping to get a mobile home. Has anyone got any experience of staying there? What are the kids clubs like? Our ds is 4. Is the beach ok? How far to the nearest town etc.? I need to know urgently as it needs to be booked by tomorrow. I hope someone can help.

In my haste to post the message forgot to mention that the site is in the Languedoc region of France.

dont know the details of that particular campsite but we went on a haven site in the vendee.

we go camping everyyear and so have experience in comparing

the haven site was fantastic.

there is usually local transport from site to town - either by bus, pivate coach or those little train things.

i know its not what you wanted but as standards go - i think havens are high

Custardo, was the Haven site in St Jean des Monts? I ask because we are going to a Haven site there this year , and it looks good. We bookec ia canvas, but it is a Haven site.

Thanks Custardo. Decided to bite the bullet and go for it anyway - it's good to know that you rate Haven holidays highly. I'm very excited as we are going five weeks today. Now I need to post to find out about stopover places on the way to the South of France!

Now that we have decided to go here I am unsure what exactly is provided. What do we need to take for the mobile home (not for us)? The Eurocamp and Keycamp brochures all have a big list of things they provide including kettle, coffee pot, cheese grater, corkscrew etc. Haven only mention that they provide crockery, cutlery, pots. Do they have all the other stuff as well or do we have to take it? Only 2.5 weeks to go.

yes they will provide the things the other operators provide in a mobile home - i would phone to check about bed linen though

am glad your happy - its only 4 weeks to my holiday - i'm excited too!

yes it was st jean btw - two sites accross the road from each other we were in the quiet site - and went over to the lively site of an evening and walked home completely sloshed with the kids giving them piggy back rides and having races - oh the fun - loved every minute.

i hope you and yours have a lovly holiday

think about food to take - i know it sounds silly - but if you prefer a certain brand of coffee or tea - or if your kids love a certain brand of gravy or other dried food.
also if coffee and tea are your thing - u know if you really like a nice cuppa after all that travelling - its worth taking your own - nothing more annoying than getting to the site to find the local shops are closed and the site shop is takin the pistols with prices! and your desperate for a brew! we take ours we know what we like and we can make a brew when we arrive.
we also pack condements - its harldy worth buying them there as you have to bring them back or give them away - so we take whats in the cupboard with regards to salt pepper and the like. we do the same with cleaning stuff - i mean we dont go and buy it for the holiday - but if its in the cupboard - i take it if we have room - that way we dont spend money on it when we are there - and my twisted mind says "more money for wine lisa!"

music - if this is important to you check if the caravan has a tape player - if not take one - also good for story books for kids.( its also a good masker when your having a bit of rumpy as the walls are thin!)

pack of cards - essential.

pool inflatables - the site takes the pistols - so buy then from a pound savers here.

How much would a camping holiday for two adults and two kids be? My sister is despairing because she has not booked anything for the summer and because they have not much spare money - last year they went to Devon, I thought maybe a camping holiday in France might be affordable? Debster, how did you get the discount?

debster · 22/05/2003 20:30

Thanks guys for the tips. Will definitely be taking tea bags and coffee especially as we drink decaffeinated. Good to know we don't have to remember all the utensils etc or have to carry them.

Hi Florenceuk - Haven are currently doing a special offer if you travel before the School Summer hols but you need to be quick cos when we rang they only had 4 mobiles left at the site we wanted.
