After finally convincing DH that camping would be a real family adventure, we need to buy a tent. We have 2 kids, 5 and 6 and it would probably only be for a couple of nights max. He has bad experiences of camping as a kid but I loved it. Generally whats the easiest type of tent to put up, any recommendations for a first tent. Any things we need to look out for, they have all come on a bit since I was last camping (about 20 years ago). Thanks

Depends on budget , layout of rooms etc
tunnel tents are easier from what i have read
check out uk campsites for tent reviews

4 people = 6 berth as a rule

if its for weekends go for easy up tents- if budget not a hbig issue consider khyam quick erect or maybe a quechua 2seconds. You don't want to spend all your time pitching.

Tunnels are easier IM (quite vast) exxperience. Something like an Ontario 6 (a design available in most brands) would do you a treat, but you need to see a few up first.

There are tent reviews here on MN now, but UK campsite is a good site for info as well.

Do cnsider the quick erects if you can- and consider ebay as well, always a good bet I think.

Oh and you need to work out if you want a sewn in groundsheet or not: with small kids I would say yes but some poeple like the option of grass underfoot, in which case look for a bucket groundsheet for versatility and bug protection
