Last time we went camping was 10 years ago, when we camped our way around France and Italy. Was absolutely brilliant - but I cannot even begin to imagine how camping would work with a small child. Biggest question is - what happens when ds goes to bed at night in the tent? One of us would have to stay with him so that no one steals him (dc are so expensive to replace) which means that the other one would be free to mingle, but that's a lonely thing.

Or am I missing something here? How do the rest of you make it work?

I can't give you advice on this, as they haven't yet designed a camping scenario where I get to have a proper mattress, no creepy noises, and electricity.

I guess it would be somewhat like going on any holiday with a tiny - as you say, the replacement issues are prohibitive - maybe take some extraordinarily comfortable chairs to lounge about on outside the tent in the evening, buy some wine, and catch up on your Scrabble expertise

If it was us, though, DH would likely be the lonely goatherd and come back occasionally with tales of interesting campers while I seethed over my book...
