Ok I have just bought a Gelert SS tent from ebay for £40.

It pops up easily and now I can't get it down again. I've read a few reviews ( after I bought it) and they all say it's rubbish

I've decided to put to experience and buy a proper one for our first ever camping trip.

I'd like a three berth, waterproof as possible and easy to put up please!

Any ideas. . .?

Outwell Montana is very easy to put up.

troutpout · 14/05/2009 14:42

There are some really impressive easy erect vango ones...wait a min...i'll have a look

Lucycat · 14/05/2009 14:52

You ahve to be really firm with the pop-ups. treat them like you mean business and twist and fold. This any help?

any tunnel type will be ded easy. How many of you are there?

Lucycat · 14/05/2009 14:54

this type of thing is a) the business as far as makes go, b) easy to put up ....and
c) it has the kids room!!

Really it depends on your budget.

troutpout · 14/05/2009 18:39

Sorry ...school pickup and then tea and the witching hours happened.
Not vango...i meant kyham.
here
but as Lucy says...it depends on how much money you have.
The outwells that Lucy mentioned are great. We have quite a big outwell which dh can pitch by himself with just a child holding the other side still.
With the popups you have to be quite ruthless and really squash them down.
How many are you and how much have you got to spend?

VanillaPumpkin · 14/05/2009 19:01

What about the Vango Tigris 400 (we have the 800) or Orchy 400?
Outwell are very good but you pay more and the Vangos are close in quality from what I read.

Thanks so much for the ideas. Budget is about £100ish.

Easy to get up and waterproof are most important for me !

I'd look on ebay...using well known brands. Coleman,Outwell,Vango etc
There are some new outwell oregon 4's and 5's on Ebay atm for about 100 quid

Peachy · 18/05/2009 09:18

Definitely ebay for £100

I'd suggest you want a tunnel tent, they're the easiest I reckon.

won't go wrong with outdoor revolution

but as tents are expensive to post you need to find what's local to you then search for reviews- uk campsite is a great way to check tent reputations

mackerel · 18/05/2009 13:25

I'd go outwell. All the vangos we saw laast summer collapsed in the high winds as the poles snapped. the montana 6 is a fab tent and easy to pitch.

VanillaPumpkin · 18/05/2009 14:24

The Outwell Montana 6 is a fab tent but it is also really expensive.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 18/05/2009 14:28

I'm very happy with our Outwell Montana. I can pitch it by myself in under 20mins. Its very waterprrof and 9 years old and still going strong.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 18/05/2009 14:43

Just realised its a Colarado I've got not a Montana, still an Outwell though.

Peachy · 18/05/2009 15:40

yes our Outwell is fab but it's not £100, it's a work up to tent I think.

We've ahd a good Khyam and a good gelert (the Beyond tyope not the pop up )and liked both but the OPutwell is a keep-for-a-decade sort (ours in a SV8)

mumshadenough · 18/05/2009 16:19

If you have a costco near you and know someone who is a member, (I am) try this one
It looks really good and has a hh of 3000 which matches most of the good brands.

mumshadenough · 18/05/2009 16:19

Forgot to say only 80 quid for this tent!!

Peachy · 18/05/2009 16:36

3000 HH is good

I wouldn't camp in less than that but equally I am completely happy with 3000; it's waterproof.

aztec

this is EXCELLENT value and should be very easy to pitch

do remember toa dd two to actual number of tent users to get the tent size you need; the manufacturers assume you do this so build accordingly

troutpout · 18/05/2009 19:03

what about this..
