I feel I must recommend this book to all you campers, its the funniest thing I have ever read and I cried I was laughing so much . If you think you have had camping disasters then this will definitely make you feel better!!

oh yes...very funny..i read it recently

Flutterbye · 13/05/2009 12:57

that was dramatised on Radio 4 a month or so ago.

meltedmarsbars · 13/05/2009 13:01

I heard it on the radio and laughed so much - especially the "special" french meal.

Ok, so here's a question.
I have the book on my bookshelf at home, waiting to be read, as I like Emma Kennedy and heard her talking about the book on the radio.
I've not been "proper" camping for years, but we're off to the Larmer Tree festival in July and a lovely site in Yorkshire in August.
My intention was to wait until then and read it while camping.
But should I read it before then to build the anticipation and possibly learn some mistakes to avoid!?
Anyone who has read it, I'd love your suggestion on whether to save it or read it.
Thanks!

troutpout · 15/05/2009 13:44

Oh it doesn't matter...It isn't really about camping actually. It's about holidays in general...you won't learn anything to avoid or any camping tips.
It would be nice to read whilst camping now actually...if only to smugly reflect how much nicer and easier it is now

tinateaspoon · 15/05/2009 17:41

I started reading it while camping, and the first chapter had me in tears! Then I was going to put it away til the next camping trip but was too hooked so finished it at home. Northmetking you could read it now and then again while camping. I think I will read it again in the near future to take in the full enormity of all their mishaps!

troutpout - I agree camping is certainly much more civilised now thank god

God that book is hilarious.

Read it now, it'll get you in the mood for camping

northmetking · 18/05/2009 08:22

Unanimous!
I'll start it tonight then.
Thanks...
