We're going on our first family camping trip in 2 weeks' time and don't have a tent!

At the moment it is just me, DH and DD (18 months) but we'd like a tent suitable for another 1 or 2 kids.

I was thinking of just a Blacks own brand tent - maybe the Tucana or the Volans Constellation II. What do you think?

Otherwise I have seen a 2nd hand Vango Venture 600 DLX 6 man tent advertised locally which has only been used twice and is a bargainous £45.

Any advice? Thanks in advance!

Hi, if you want a new tent, I would go for the Tucana, because it gives the HH (Hydrostatic head - ie how waterproof it is) as 3000mm - this is good. The other link gives no HH so would personally discard it.
Vango are a good make and the local ad sounds good. If you don't mind a used tent, then this sounds like a good buy. The choice is yours, hope the advice helps, and have a good holiday.
PS - it is awfully early in the year to camp - warm days, COOOOLD nights - take extra blankets and HOT WATER BOTTLES.

Blacks are fine (and really are related to another well known brand you know)

Add 2 to the number of kids you're likely to have in 3 yeras and thats the size you need; then yes, 3000 is the minimum BUT also a decent figure (there's no halfway houses with waterproof-ness is there LOL)

I like campng at this time of year, we're starting at Whitsun which is a bit late for us but away elsewhere mayday.... the trick is to line the rooms with a blanket for insulation, wear hats in bed and get into your PJ's early before it is too cold.

Right, I've gone for the 2nd hand Vango - at least if camping's a disaster I've only spent £45 on it! A bit worried about the comments on how cold it will be though... think we'll fill the car to the roof with duvets as well as sleeping bags if we can fit them in!!
