I have taken the plunge and booked a weekend ticekt to Latitiude Festival in July, just me and DS aged3 (will be nearly four).

never put a tent up in my life but obviously need one now.

IS there a problem with this - it seems so cheap.

Alternatively are there cheap tents that you can train to put up themselves?

Can I join in please.

My DH has decided that we are going camping this year [gulp] and have been looking at tents! We have found this one that we both like as we can change it around inside to fit our needs.

We have been on some campsite websites and they are saying that it is to big to pitch! Will we have to look at smaller tents?

Thankyou.

Peachy · 26/03/2009 13:45

Well there are somesites that will take it but many are shrinking oitches to fit more in. How many kids have you got?

A geodesic (pod) tent is always ahrdest to find spaces for IME, as there's never an angle you can shift it to IYSWIM

mumlove · 26/03/2009 13:50

There could be different amounts of people, but DH has a kayak that he wants to bring inside when not using it!!

Me, DH, DD (9)
an sometimes friend and her DD
or DSS (25) and a friend.

We are going to borrow a couple of tents from friends to try a few odd nights out 1st before buying.

Peachy · 26/03/2009 13:51

or profile says 1 child? That tent is waaaay too big

If he wants a geo look at something like a 2 pod Gelert Tahoma here whichwas our first decet tent and great, but consider something like a tunnel tent if you want ease of booking- the utah on here is spacious but more pitch friendly, or the satellite dome on the same page is a midway

Peachy · 26/03/2009 13:52

for the kayak look at theutah andtahoma shapes as they are the more flexible

mumlove · 26/03/2009 14:00

Thankyou for your ideas I will get DH to have a look at them.

It would be great to see them all up but not many places near us have them on show.

Peachy · 26/03/2009 14:04

Where are you in Dorset? if you're near the Somerset border it's worth a trip over to one of the taunbton leisure shows, (DH from the border area) but obv. Dorset is a big place

mumlove · 26/03/2009 14:12

In Poole.

Umlellala · 26/03/2009 15:26

I have just bought this Wynnster Phoenix 6 for us (dh, me and two small dc) - we are doing Camp Bestival this year. Hoping it'll be big enough but not too enormous

Peachy · 26/03/2009 18:18

There's a lady called Dustystar who occasionally posts here; if you can track her (or a post by her, so you can click the envelope by her name) she knows all the tent shops in your area.

Mumlove, go out to St Leonards to Campers & Leisure where the Oakdene campsite is. They have loads on display.

But if it comes to buying one you might get a better price at Hitch N Pitch. They have a shop at the Merley roundabout (where the Bird Gardens used to be, there's a campsite there) and one in Poole High Street. They too have them on display but not as many.

mumlove · 26/03/2009 18:52

Thankyou everyone any more ideas are welcome.

I know Dustystar so will email her .

We have been to Hitch N Pitch and looked at the Gelert Horizon 6 Tent but I think it will still be to long for most pitches.
Also been to 1 near moors valley where we saw the tent we like.

So will go and have a look at St Leonards.

Peachy · 27/03/2009 10:58

Length wise most places can take 7m at lesst, we have only had a few places not take our 7.5 X 8 tent in reality (disclaimer 4 kids LOL) and caravan and camping pitches will take it.

Riven the Orchy is known as a great tent.

mumlove · 03/04/2009 19:36

Well we have been to all the tent sellers around where we live and have found this one that DH and myself agree on. Hopefully!!
But it might have a zip in ground sheet.
