Need a tent suitable for back pack (or suitcase), that will fit 4 blow up beds

can anyone recommend a reasonably priced tent to fit 2 adults, and 2 young children (age 3 and 5), need to also fit blow up beds and have some room if weather is really bad.

It also has to be carriable (or in suitcase) as we are going on the train.

We are hoping to backpack round South West this year (for a trial before doing Europe next year), and our current 2 tents (9 berth very heavy and needs car to transport or 4 man very lightweight won't fit in blow up beds) arenot suitble for a 2 week tour.

I had the Vango venture 500 and it is very heavy. DC and i went by train with it and i really struggled to carry it. May be easier for a man to manage though. Although i am not a weakling!

Sold mine a while later as their was no way i was going to attempt camping again with it. I don't drive so train was our only option. Hope that helps.

I don't think it would.(Trying to immagine size of it size of bags!) It came in a pretty large bag.
We, just about, fitted me, plus 4 dc(3,4,8 and 10, in it but we didn't have air beds.

The pop-up tents are very light and have rucksack-style carrying straps (makes you look a bit like a ninja turtle!). Not sure you could fit 4 airbeds in and have room to move about. Alternatively you could get two and put one adult and one child in each tent.

don't want hassle of two tents as end up paying 2 fees normally and need some living area as kids small and if weather bad need somewhere to sit

need to go see Vango at shop to fully get size and test weight etc.

Already have light tent to fit 4 (Lichfield) but it won't fit blow up beds, did use to have roll mats, but have bad back and always felt cold,plus not getting any younger

Have you thought about a bell tent, total pack weighs 16kg, one pole and a lot of floor space that can be adjusted to make a good living space if weather is bad. Airbeds should be no problem in this.

If you can fit it onto a sack truck or inside a bag on wheels (you can buy these on ebay if you have a good look) for ease of transporting...

Plus you will be one of the coolest tents on the site!!

There's this one but IO haven't seen it up; usually you add two to the total occupants to get a tent capacity but then you'd find most six berth tents are massive and weighty.

I've seen this locally and it's nice, or you could look at this for a different approach. this is a bit heavier but a wheeled bag should cope, and
the same for this one.

Peachy your local one is only about 15 miles from me, so you must live quite close. I feel I need to visit this store

I've actually seen it at a campsite but if you are looking for a great display near us the best one goes up soon- raglan garden Centre (search for the camping and kite centre on google)- it's here but not up yet. The other one we use a lot is in Somerset but if you ever head down there it's not that far- takes us under an hour (parents there) at Burnham, open 4th April- the centre ts at has enough stuff toe ntertain kids too even snakes (but am phobic so hide then!)

Hi MrsPurpl, What about something like this? or the 6 berth here? Not sure of make or anything, but the 12 berth is only 11 kg, and the 6 is 10kg so much lighter than the other one, I know vango do polycotton tipi tents, but I can only find the details in german or dutch or something foreign.

Also, here might be worth looking at, although it's a lot of money, would be very easy to transport as it only weighs just over 5 kgs. only takes 10 mins to set up and looks like it would fit a fair amount in!!

I totally want you to get one of these....I think they would be ace for you!!

That teepee(asusumng it sthe one I linked to?) ahs a HH of 10,000. You could camp at the bottom of the ocean in that! Wow

What does 'ahs a HH of 10,000 ' mean

HH- hydrostatic head- is how waterproof it is basically

its the number of MM the tent would support of water.

3000 is the accepted standard I think- wouldn't buy below that but 3000 will do you fine; 5000 is amazing- 10000 is incredible

got you and in this country the more the better.

We camped in floods 2 years ago and current tent withstood that. But as it's a 9 man, it's too big to backpack with and takes to long to put up.

We still have out first tent 'Lichfield Cherokee 4', which is great for backpacking with, but I don't think it will take 4 blow up beds (need to try at weekend).

We used to rough it with roll mats, but put my back out last time so not an option, plus you can't stand up in it.

ooh the more I read about this tent the more Ilike it.

Question is wheather to go for 800 version (still less weight than original backpack tent) and spend £95 or the 500 version for £69.

I think the extra room would justify the additional cost and weight.

Anyonw know how long tippee take to put up?

They reckon about 10 mins, pole in top, stand it up peg it out....simple!!
they look really good, and looks like they have a sig too, so good for the lovely british weather!!

I would always go for the bigger one, you never know when you might have to spend a fair bit of time in it!!

ooh look at this one here. A bit more expensive, and a little heavier, but it's polycotton, so would be good in rain here, or sun in france...(assuming this is how the weather goes this year!) Loving the pack size, it's small enough to fit in a suitcase with wheels.
