I have been talking crap and have fallen in love with a Royal Bordeaux 6 tent not an outwell. Am I making a mistake leaving the familiar outwell brand?

I thought it was an outwell as it looked like one but have just realised it was not.

Does anyone have one of these tents or have heard anything about it. I am quite unsure now as we have always played it safe with outwell gear is there an alternative?

Hi twinset, have a look at ukcampsite for reviews - they seem to be quite good.

MrsPurple · 01/03/2009 23:48

try this linkwww.ukcampsite.co.uk/tents/preview.asp?id=230

Goodluck.

We purchased an unknown make 2 years ago and it stood upto the bad winds and floods, sometimes good to try and save money

Peachy · 02/03/2009 14:36

Agree try uk campsite but royal far fromunknown brand, regularlya dvertised in caravan and camping magazine and mentioned in there; I would say seem to be a reliable brand and a good one.

twinsetandpearls · 02/03/2009 18:22

Thanks for that peachy

hello again! sorry didn't mean to confuse you twinset

Royal are a good make - I agree it does look like an Outwell.

twinsetandpearls · 02/03/2009 18:39

No problems Lucy. I think we will get this one then. I have read one bad review about it blowing down but the others are very good.

I think in the shop it was next to some outwells as well and that confused me.

I'm just glad to see that someone else has as heavy a tent as us then (and dustystar!)

Do you have a trailer? What sort of Outwell are you trading it in for?

twinsetandpearls · 02/03/2009 18:45

We have an outwell oregon 5 and 2 outwell day tents.

We dont have a trailer but have an estate and will get a roof box.

It does really looklike one though

Not like ours mind coz we had one of the last Outwell blue tents (Sun Valley 8 alst year),though despite Lucy's best efforts > we'relooking at the teepee as the long sought after weekender for our new found campsite with campsires

Lucycat · 02/03/2009 19:41

my best efforts?

can't do with slopey ceilings in my tents!

go on get one i wanna see the photos!

twinsetandpearls · 02/03/2009 19:43

Our Oregon has slopey ceileings in the bedroom and it is a bit of a pain. The montana 6 also has slopey ceilings in the bedrooms as well - that is our other choice.

can anyone recommend a reasonably priced tent to fit 2 adults, and 2 young children (age 3 and 5), need to also fit blow up beds and have some room if weather is really bad.

It also has to be carriable (or in suitcase) as we are going on the train.

We are hoping to backpack round South West this year (for a trial before doing Europe next year), and our current 2 tents (9 berth very heavy and needs car to transport or 4 man very lightweight won't fit in blow up beds) arenot suitble for a 2 week tour.

Peachy · 02/03/2009 19:52

MrsP I'd start a new thread, you might ant more specialist advice on backpack-abe tents for that. my Mum has one that would suit though- will see if I can find it for you.

Luce we will get it, but DH bought a smart car today so need to save for a bit!

Peachy · 02/03/2009 19:55

MrsP- here Mum's tent, on offer

HTH

MrsPurple · 02/03/2009 20:01

Thanks Peachy, your mum's tent looks like the one we have already, can't fit blow up beds in. One bedroom would be fine. Will post a new thread. cheers

Lucycat · 02/03/2009 20:06

Something like the Vango venture 500 will fir 4 airbeds across and gives room at the head/foot end for your kit.

Packs down small too so you could carry it.

MrsPurple · 02/03/2009 20:14

Thanks Lucy, looks a good price to

Peachy · 03/03/2009 11:36

Vango venture is a fab tent

Mum'stent takes 2 airbed but yes might be an issue with more.

Luce's suggestion is very much the standard of its type tbh; I seriosuly doubt you'd better it

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 03/03/2009 11:43

That looks almost identical to the Montana 6 though, and that is cheaper if you gat an 08 model?

Peachy · 03/03/2009 11:52

The Monty 6 is double the pack weight though which I think matters to the OP's choices, good though the Monty is.

Peachy · 03/03/2009 11:52

Sorry more than double- Venture 11kg, Monty 22 canvas and 17 poles- eek LOL!

Peachy · 03/03/2009 11:55

Oh hgang on am I getting confused between posts - 2 queries on one thread LOL

Yes the twotentsa resimilar and prices for 2008 modelscomp[are but the porch isnt included so I'd still go for Royal if I liked it (I really dont think there's asignificant quality difference and I do say that as an Outwell owner and lover myself)

Beachcomber · 03/03/2009 12:03

We have a Royal tent. It is the Avignon 6 so quite similar to the one you're interested in.

It is a well made good quality tent, the zips are good and solid and the tent is very waterproof. We live and camp in France and have had some cracking thunderstorms with all night heavy rain and the tent stayed dry as a bone. For a big tent it also performed pretty well in high winds.

Only downside is that is a big tent and very heavy. It is heavy to put up as well especially in wind. This would be the case for any tent of a similar size though. Also Royal didn't send us the right number of pegs, we didn't even have half the amount we needed. Luckily we had a practice pitch before taking it on holiday the first time!

IMO Royal tents are well made and offer very good value for money.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 03/03/2009 12:14

Ah weight I am crap at things like that, I was going purely on looks.

This goes some way to explaing why dp goes a bit white and panicky when it's time to pack the car for camping, as I merrily assemble all the things we 'need', whilst assuring him 'don't worry I'm sure it will fit'!

Peachy · 03/03/2009 12:30

Oh Dh ahs a set routine for apcking, i don't get involved (even thiough the one time I did it was done fr more efiently LOL). A definuite case of Not Worth It.
