Weather! where's best in France?

I realise the south is going to be very hot, maybe a bit too much! Planning to go in July with a baby, went to Royan a few years ago at that time & it was fairly cool with rain at times, so would like somewhere warmer, any ideas?

oh We are off to near Royan at the end of July!

We have stayed in Normandy, Brittany, Vendee and the Loire end of July / beginning of August and always had nice weather.

Lucycat · 28/02/2009 18:56

at least south of the Loire if you want decent weather i.e not like Britain!

people say the Vendee has its own microclimate but it's very dull in terms of landscape imo

brittany is lovely, beautiful beaches and nice and close if you go by ferry.

choufleur · 28/02/2009 19:00

brittany and the Loire are both lovely and the atlantic beaches are great.

Thanks all!, can start looking now!
bigTilly- I'm sure it'll be fine at the end of July, we went the 1st week of July and I'm sure that'll make a difference!

My husband writes about France - he says that Charente Maritime (La Rochelle to Royan) has been scientifically proven to be the warmest part of France, not including the south coast!

He also says American scientists have said this will be a hot summer (hurray).

So you should all be fine in and around Royan!

Depends what you consider as hot. Personally I love the South of France, and the 2 times I have been there the weather has been perfect (end of August) and not too hot for the kids. I too have been to Royan, and the weather was not good, again at the end of August, but I loved the beaches. South West weather can at times be unpredictable. I have also been to Languedoc at the end of August, the weather was OK but not as good as the Cote D'Azur.

We love the Vendee, I've been going there for nearly 30yrs now...at first as a kid and now I take my child there. Lovely beaches and great weather.

poopscoop · 23/04/2009 20:28

cote d'azur without a doubt. The vendee can have a quit a breeze as it is on the atlantic coast and can make it feel somewhat chillier. Although it can be really hot too.
Head for the med and you won't be disappointed.

We have been going to the same place in Brittany last 3 years (sad, I know ) and had to hide from the heat in 2006, it was rather cool and damp in 2007 and last year was warmer but on occasion wet.
The Cote d'Azur, IMO, becomes unbearably hot after the end of May.

ajaygranny, I love your DH!
