We're getting ready for our first ever family camping trip. We bought the Diablo 600 last autumn in a sale and are collecting other bits and bobs we need.

We're thinking of May bank holiday weekend for 2 nights initially, just in case we all hate it. So don't want to go too far from home (Cardiff).

We're thinking of the short trip over the Bath - to Newton Mill camping which is a 4 star site with amazing loos apparently.

Newton Mill

Has anyone been here? is it any good? is there anywhere better for a first trip?

We've been to Broadway House loads of times, in a caravan though.

Hockeypuck,

I drive past the site regularly and all I can say is that it is quite near the A4 and the Newbrigde road is also very busy especially in the evening as eveyone heads out of or into town along it. So I think there will be a bit of road noise. But if you don't mind that - there is a great pub just along the road which does reasonalbe food but is fantastic for families, it is only a short bus ride into town (also walkable about 2miles) and here is plenty to do once you are in town. Busses run until 8pm I think.

HTH

We stayed there years ago - it was a lovely site, but was situated right next to a rough housing estate which would put me off going there again.

(chelly my mum lives on that estate....)

We stayed at Newton Mill for one night to try out our new tent before taking it on a proper trip. It was fine. No noise from the roads or the neighbouring area. Can't remember the loos.
