My tent is akin to a marquee. Im finding it incredibly hard to book sites that will allow us on in such a large tent.

any recommendations?

You need to search on ukcampsite forum. They have details of campsites that take large tents.

what areas you looking at

This site in Cornwall has pretty huge pitches, we've got a Diablo 600 and I've booked for Aug, we've been given a pitch that is about 13m wide with plenty of space around it. A friend has been and said it's a fab site too.

I really only want to travel about 1 hour / 1.5 hours from Birmingham MAX.

Cheddar? Broadway House has a few massive tent pitches (in the area known as Badgers Hole, try saying that without smirking!)

DH says thats a journey of under 2 hours but easy straight M-Way run.

Christchurch in forest of dean would doa s well-lovely site.

We're struggling with big pitches too; just booked here for half term Whitsun. But also buying a smaller tent for weekends due to the problem.

Thanks Peachy. Will have a look.

have stayed here near swanage , where you cant book but could easily pitch a giant tent

and here near bath where you could easily book a pitch for an enourmouse tent.

we had a booked a space for 4 big tents here in hartfiled east sussex so i expect you could book a big plot here too

not sure if they are close enough for you?

choufleur · 23/02/2009 19:21

we've just got a diablo 600. never considered that there would be a problem due to the size.

The forestry commission campsites in the new forest seem to let you pitch wherever you like within a big area. Best to check, but I would be surprised if they put limits on.

Conway camping and touring park. About 2 hours drive, but pretty and near to mountains, castle and beach.
