Dh and I are planning a camping trip in the Landes region this summer. We've been before, but pre-children so tended to rough it rather.

With 5-year old ds now in tow we need a child-friendly site, preferably right on the beach (and if it has good surf that'll make dh's day) with a pool and good facilities.

Anyone recommend anywhere?

We went to Biscarosse with Keycamp last summer - very big site, excellent water park area, which was the biggest draw, together with a lakeside 'beach' and a lovely adventure playground. Downside was noisy discos late in to the evening, and the smell of burgers, chips, churrios and candy floss made us think we prefer the smaller, quieter sites. Good to try but won't go back again.

Thank you for that - I'd seen that place online and it does look fantastic. We were not sold on it as we really wanted a surf beach next to us, so with your comments on noise and smells that has really helped!

OOH YES. We went to la Rive and loved it. It's all taste really. Loved the lively bar( kids are older and we were right at the other end)
The lakeside beach was fantastic as your kid could go right to the middle of the lake and still only be up to his waist.
The beaches are so so rough it would not be relaxing at all wiht a little on unless you were going to hold his hand all the time. Even a friends 12 year old got spooked by the force of the waves at times.
It seems that in this area most sites are inland by lakes.
I never smelled chips btw- was tooo busy in the resturant eating moules and drinking rose.

La Paillotte is lovely

Fantastic facilities, but not too many pitches. Excellent pool, by a lake and nice cafe.

You might struggle to find what you want on a beach. The municipal in Cap de L'Homy looks great and gets a good write up in Cool Camping France, but doesn't have a pool I think.

If you were happy to go a bit further north, the Panorma du Pyla is terrific:

I second dustbuster. Went their last year and pitched right by the lake. Perfect place to wake up to on holiday. The beach at Messanges is good.
