Just booked first Eurocamp holiday with 2 children (2 & 1) - any tips?

Hi,

I'm new to Mumsnet and a relatively new Mummy too. We have never managed a holiday abroad since our first child was born and this year is our chance. We like camping and do have our own tent etc but were a little daunted by the whole thing so decided to go the Eurocamp route and use their facilities and tents. We're going to Camping "La Baie" in Trinite sur Mer, near Carnac in Brittany in July. Have we done the right thing? Does anybody know this site or this area? Do you have any tips for us? Anything we should do/not do pack/leave at home etc?

Any help is much appreciated, I am so excited about taking my pickles to the beach!!!

I've just got back from a week in Carnac in a family house. It is absolutely beautiful and La Trinité had a great fish market.

We didn't see much because it was so cold but the area was gorgeous.

I just hope you get good weather. I'm sure in somewhere like a Eurocamp there will be facilities for if it rains - maybe take welly boots so you can go and splash on the beach even if the summer is awful?

Lovely, thank you! You're very brave going at this time of year. It was probably much quieter and more peaceful than in July!

On the way out we are catching the overnight ferry from Portsmouth to St Malo and on the way back we are catching the fast ferry from Cherbourg back to Portsmouth in the evening. Does that sound like a good plan?

This is the first time we have taken the children away on holiday so I've no idea what works best! We got a cabin on the way out hoping that they might sleep. You know what they say about all the best made plans though!

I have been to Eurocamp in France and Holland, and are going on our third trip this year.

Not been to Brittany, but im sure it will be great. Eurocamp are fantasitic - Enjoy

We're going in the first week of July - after the Wiggles concert in London (!) and before the school holidays start. I'm already spending ages thinking about what we need to pack etc - I'm so excited! Our first proper holiday as a family :-)

From what I've heard, we've done the right thing by going for the full Eurocamp. Even though its more expensive I think it will make it more of a holiday for us. I was dreading getting to the campsite and having to set up camp while keeping an eye on 2 mischievous toddlers!

OP - are you in the tents or caravans?

OK the little shop outside is good for bread milk etc but its best to stock up at a supermarket ,our favourite is Super U ,Avenue des Druides Carnac -Plage not to be confused with MarcheU also avenue des Druides but smaller.Lots of food etc with fresh fish counter downstairs and clothes ,toys ,maps etc upstairs.Bigger hypermarkets near Auray.More later as I must get on We have been going here since 1986!!!when my eldest was 6 months and have looked into buying a holiday house as we like it so much!!!

Wow, thank you all. I'm even more excited now! We're staying in tents. We have one of our own that we used to use before the children were born but as this is our first holiday we thought we would go for the eurocamp tents. This way we can learn lots and maybe use our own next year when we know what to take etc.

I love the idea of going to the supermarket while we are there. Thank you maddylou! I'm so pleased you wrote, its great to hear from somebody who knows the area well.

Is it best to take nappies etc with me or can I get them there without it costing heaps? My son will be just 1 so we won't need formula or sterilised stuff which will hopefully make things a bit easier. It's a shame they're both too young to join us in the diet of red wine, pate, cheese, french bread and moules!

Hi there we spent some time on that site in sept and it was lovely.

There is a nice playground for toddlers and the beach is just across the road.

I would advise that you take your own travel cot as our DD absolutely refused to have anything to do with the one provided and slept with us
