I'm after one in a fishing town / village rather than sandy beaches, walking distance to shops, restaurants etc

www.wdlh.co.uk/

We have stayed at Highlands End, which was fine, except it can be a bit breezy! Easy walking distance to a quiet pebbly beach at Seatown and a grockly beach/harbour at West Bay.

We have also stayed here but it was years ago now, lovely though. North Devon is generally really good.

Hope you find something suitable! Happy Holidays

Braddicks holiday centre is great in Westward Ho! Walking distance to everything, and a short drive to the amazing Clovelly.

I've stayed at Golden cap - also one of wdlh's sites - great location - literally 2 minutes walk from the pub beach - but crowded and the overspill filrd (area 9) is very windy! having said that we are probably heading back that way at Whit.

I've put a review on ukcamping if you're interested.

We've also stayed at pear tree nearer to Poole which was nice too, but run with lots of rules and the 'wrong' side of Wareham for the traffic down tothe Purbecks!

drinkmoretea · 04/01/2009 22:52

pear tree does look nice but blimey, what a lot of rules!

How about Porlock in North Somerset? There are lots of little shops, post office etc, plus several nice pubs and restaurants. Just a short distance away is Porlock Weir which is very fishing villagy. Porlock also has its own beach which is stoney not sandy and there is a campsite within walking distance in Sparkhayes Lane.
If you fancy the bright lights at any time (or if it rains non-stop!) Minehead is a 15 min drive away and has Butlins, Steam Railway etc.

West Bay in Dorset is lovely....they have a parkdean holiday site that you can camp at, but there are loads just round the corner that I imagine are better

Inside park in Dorset. near Blandford Forum.
Good play ground, woods to explore etc. Walk or bike to Blandford in one direction and at least pub in another, drive to Wareham and beyond.

If you go to Porlock, then Porlock Caravan site has just the best loo and shower block ever - and it's not just for caravans, they take tents too!
