as a camping virgin, can anyone give me any advice regarding costs?

I think it depends where you go, very basic campsites can be as low as £8 per night, the more facillites they have the more expensive they get usually. We have paid on average £15 per night I think.

have a look at the caravan and camping club- their accredited sites can be very cheap indeed and you can save the cost very rapidly

really basic sites are only £5 a night or so.... but it depends what you need for DC (ages?)
We used a 2 man tent, and no 'furniture' and have had extremely cheap holidays in the past... though this would be a lot more difficult if you have a toddler and a babe in arms!

If you want more basic- try Outdoors magic (eg if your children are for example 11 and 13 and want to rough it) and this has loads on other outdoor activities nto just camping too.
