Lucycat or anyone else who's been to Home Farm in Anglesey

We LOVED this campsite adn was just wondering if there was anywhere similar in other locations (there must be!). Probably not too far down south but would consider going up to Scotland.

We loved the really nice shower blocks adn also the enclosed play area - we are not 'pitch in the middle of a random field' campers but we're not Butlins types either. If you've been to Home Farm - that kind of thing!

Glad you like Home Farm - it is lovely isn't it...butwe haven't found the perfect site yet! We aren't 'minimalist-middle-of-field' campers either tbh and I do like a nice toilet/shower block.

I like Dornafield and Ross Park but they are in Devon - The Plassey is too commercialsed for us, and most of the Lakes sites are too slopey/undeveloped/touring caravan types (take your pick!)

tbh the sites in this country aren't a patch on the continental ones but we're still looking for good ones not too far from us!

and I avoid Scotland from June to the first frosts because of the midges,we have friends who live in a gorgeous house near Kirkcudbright who can't sit outide all summer or open their windows at night beacuse of the little buggers!

Have you tried the Best Of British brochure? Home Farm is in there Have a browse here then check the reviews on ukcamping.

although I've just noticed on another thread that you fancy taking the tent to France - we went with the dd's for the first time this year and it was just fantastic. The best holiday we've ever had....and we're definately going back next year.

Really fancy camping in France and dh was quite up for it when I broached the subject - I was very surprised as he said he would not camp for more than a weekend.

Did you drive? Oh, daft question if you took your own tent!

No problems with tent size?

French pitches tend to be generous - if in doubt then phone the site and ask - we had a Pitch XXL which was 10m x 20m this year - we couldn't decide where to put the tent it was so big!

We did Brittany Ferries this year as the drive up from Portsmouth is only 3 1/2 hours (ish) but dd was sea sick so we'll do the tunnel next year and take the pop ups for overnight stops.

Fisherground or Castlerigg in the Lakes are both very clean and friendly. Many of the Caravan Club sites also allow tents and have clean facilities, as do the Caravan and Camping Club.

Can you book at either of those sites serin? I hate the idea of turning up, not being able to get in and having to trawl round looking for somewhere else!

agree - I like know I'm 'in' before trekking to a site!

Sadly I think that's it for this year - just going to be too chilly from now on isn't it?
