Motor caravan - do you use campsites or just stop randomly?

If you do use campsites do you have to book. We are going last week of August so guess will be quite busy.

We have hired a camper so quite novice-ish. We are heading from Wiltshire to Cornwall. pICKED UP A few campsite reviews but not sure if want to commit to where we will be each night!

We always (until 2 yrs ago as we sold the camper) just turned up. I was very surprised how quiet cornwall and devon can be in august. Although this does depends on what kind of site your after. If you are happy with a big field and not much else, maybe a loo and shower you shouldn't have a problem finding sites.
