Selling our Bell tent, is there a site I could use or are we stuck with ebay?

Flightputsonahat · 30/07/2008 08:35

I've listed it on ebay to go on tonight but I am cross with ebay atm and would rather sell it on a camping 'site' really.

Does anyone know somewhere to advertise second hand tents?

TIA!

gumtree?

Flightputsonahat · 30/07/2008 08:43

Hmm. I don't know if we have one. We must do surely?

Hi, If you register here, www.ukcampsite.co.uk/ then you can list your bell tent in the for sale pages. I imagine if it is at the rght price, you will get a lot of interest.....
What size is it? does it have the sig? where was it from?
Good luck
Emma

Flightputsonahat · 30/07/2008 08:54

Hi Emma, thanks for the link!

It's the 4m deluxe with the SIG, very heavy - I got it from a Dutch website but it's like the ones on Belltents UK I think.

Not sure how much to ask either.

Look at recent finishing prices on Ebay for an idea of price.

Flightputsonahat · 30/07/2008 08:58

Thanks Fourarms - I did that earlier but there was nothing with a SIG and almost every bell tent was a new one from a shop iyswim, nothing really second hand.

I know these sell new for just over £300 incl delivery, so I would expect you could get about £200 for it if it's used in good condition.

How come you are selling it?

Emma

Flightputsonahat · 30/07/2008 09:07

Thanks Emma

I got it in a moment of delirious madness thinking we would go camping this year. We didn't and we won't, I have come to terms with the fact I do not want to camp

It was nice to have in the garden for the boys to play in but tbh it is probably not going to be used much.

Beautiful object of art that it is

I have a stove and loads of gas bottles to shift as well

Oh and some blow up beds...

OP posts:
pookamoo · 30/07/2008 09:17

I'd be interested in buying it...

mumshadenough · 30/07/2008 09:19

I think I would sell the tent on the UKcampsite ads....more likely to get a good price and no messing around there...People on the site know quality and will appreciate a good tent when advertised. Might even be worth trying to get about £250 or offers for it.

Regarding the bits and pieces. Stick them all together and list as a family camping package with full details of items,(minus tent) and see what happens. probably wont get much for them, but as a package with the tent, people will really only want to pay for what the tent is worth....the rest wont really be taken into consideration...sorry.

Thanks Emma...will think it over...still got little tent in case we do decide to give it all a try!

Pooka - where are you? We are in kent - I could courier it but it's about 25kg. I think that would be Ok.

OP posts:
pookamoo · 30/07/2008 09:43

We're in Gloucestershire, so not very local to you, but depending on how much the courier charge compares to the petrol and the price of the new ones on BellTents.co.uk, we'd definitely consider coming to pick it up!

The thing is that we are currently in the process of moving house, so we wouldn't be in a position to take it until after we move (probably at the end of August) which is not of any help to you if you want it out of your way...

Flightputsonahat · 30/07/2008 09:47

Ooh, Gloucestershire is lovely

I think there is a courier who would do it for around £15, I used to use them for prams.

I did want it out of the way really but will have a ponder...it doesn't take up much space so might be able to live with it!

pookamoo · 30/07/2008 09:54

Ok, well you have a little think about it and let me know how much you're asking, and I will remind DH that he said we could get a bell tent when we move!

Flightputsonahat · 30/07/2008 19:22

Hiya - I've bunged it on ebay to see if we get any bids. If not I'm happy to wait till you've moved - I could reduce it a bit as well Just chancing my luck really!

FourArms · 30/07/2008 20:38

Just looked at your auction...and had a few thoughts..

Do you really want it to end at 5pm on a Saturday? Doesn't seem like peak viewing time for last minute bids.

I would add the location in the title or add a subtitle.

It might be worth mentioning that you also have other camping items that you are looking to sell in case it makes it worthwhile for someone to travel and collect the whole lot.

pookamoo · 30/07/2008 21:00

Good luck, I will add it to my "watching" on ebay, and see how it goes!

Flightputsonahat · 31/07/2008 07:28

Ok Pooks

Fourarms - thanks for your help! When would you suggest as a good end time? I used to do sundays but it seems that the summer has made fewer people care about being on ebay at all
Especially at weekends.

I can post it so region prob not too crucial I think...courier will take up to 31kg and it only weighs 25 (only?!)

I don't think I have any watchers yet.

OP posts:
FourArms · 31/07/2008 08:29

I wouldn't bother too much about it being a Sunday, but I would definitely go for about 9pm at night. Perhaps to end on a Monday or Tuesday. Go for 10 days. Then earlier watchers start to feel that they 'own' the tent before the end, and have to have it. Last minute bids can make a massive difference to your end price.

I think with postage of £25, you will get people keen to collect and save that amount. Therefore the region might be important. Stress that you are more than happy for people to collect in person, and possibly give the first part of your postcode for people to check distances.

If you restart tomorrow for 10 days it will end on a Monday, then you get viewers over two weekends. There aren't many bell tents on Ebay, so anybody doing a search for a bell tent will see your tent even if it's still got days to run.

Flightputsonahat · 31/07/2008 08:31

Wow. Can you be my ebay consultant please!

I have some watchers from overnight, so that is a good sign.
I might restart it tomorrow as you suggest...why do I not understand these things!
Thanks very much

Spend far too much time on Ebay Hope I've helped

mumshadenough · 31/07/2008 17:56

Good advice there FourArms. I would def end it around 9pm. Most of the shops that sell things daily will end around that time, mostly people like us online once kids asleep.
I too spend too much time on Ebay, hubby hates that I get stuff from there, but I've managed to pick up loads of camping bargains over the past few years!
Good luck, Will watch it....what's your ebay name?

reethi96 · 31/07/2008 17:59

If you don't sell it on ebay, put it on here, I might be interested too!

Flightputsonahat · 02/08/2008 09:45

Thanks ladies. Someone emailed me early this morning to ask if I'd accept an offer as they need it next week, and I agreed to £250 - he's collecting it in a minute!

Sorry Pook, I hope you find one when you've moved.
