VW campervan owners sign in!!

lets talk all things campervan!

We have a tintop danbury 1971 conversion, whilst it looks very tidy its beginning to go rather rusty and is need of some serious welding...i spend half my life worrying about it!! the danbury conversion works well for us as it seats all four of our children in the back! We are members of our local vw club The Shoe county dubbers and have loads of dub friends who we camp with at shows regulalry. I also occasionally post on VZI but am more of a lurker , have made some good friends through that site....anymore for anymore?

oh and btw am very gutted that we are not at Bug jam this year, its only up the road and I love watching the racing.

We plan on going to VW Action at Santapod later in the year and are hosting as a club our own show www.shoe-county-dubbers.co.uk in septemeber ifg anyone fancies come along!!

We've got Bobby the Splitty, 1967 Canterbury Pitt (all totally original interior, with a wee hob etc) - is in for some minor repairs at the mo. Were in the Split Screen Van Club for a bit, but never quite got into the scene....

Have had some great hols in him, but we've made the reluctant decision to sell him... DD1 is 11, very lanky and getting too massive to sleep in the back like she used to. DD2 is 15 months and a little monkey. It's just a lot easier for us to hire a cottage these days.

Asking £14,000 as he's quite mint (and dark green, literally).

It's a "he" actually - named after Greyfriars Bobby, cos we got him from a bloke near Edinburgh.

Yup we will so miss him. We've been to Stanford Hall and Dub Freeze , is it??? trying to sell him, but no interest as yet. Will have to do proper internet advert I reckon!

Me me me! I've recently bought a 1984 Devon camper, but unfortunately it broke the day after I bought it and it's been off having a new gear box put in for the last 4 weeks. Shoudl have it back on Weds next week though so will be much more enthusiastic about it then.

What is VZI?

puppymonkey - good luck selling

we have just been trying to sell our VW transporter, but the market seems to have crashed - they are going for around £1000 for a similar model to ours,

this time last year it was £4000!

MY DH is the happiest man in the world because he LOVES our van, we were selling for finacial reasons but now will hold out to see what happens-

VZI is short for Volkszone its an internet forum for volkswagen nuts!!
They ahve a mechanical tech section where you can ask questions and for sale and wanted etc and just general vw chat.
Did you get your gearbox sorted?

What have your best trips been anyone?

we have not used ours nearly enough ( I did the MOST embarrassing thing ever and got ours stuck under a barrier and we had to mend it for ages!)

luckily I was about 2 weeks pregnant and my DH was so happy about that he forgive me - in fact it was the same day we found out!

our best trip was to Cornwall last year for two weeks, we did loads of travelling around, we are going for three weeks this year..can't wait.

so far this year we have only been to shows, busstopver and the big bang, we spent a wicked day in it last sunday at our local reservoir for a picnic. we drive ours daily aswell.

We've got a splitty. It's a 1966 devon torvette.

It's unfortunately off the road and has been for a while until my DH gets round to welding it.

DH would like to try and have it on the road for vanfest this year, but as his work keep sending him away it looks like it might not happen :-(

devon conversions are my favourite . At least your dp welds, we have to pay an extortionate rate to get it done!

oh wow love the california, saw one when were on holiday last year it was such luxury..it must be nice not to have to worry about them breaking down!!

Oh wow, we would love a new California, can't afford it though.

Doesn't have the same character as a splitty though ;-)

We are lucky that DH can weld, but our splitty is still a total money pit!!

We've got a late bay tin-top twin sliding door. It came to us with no interior but we've installed a full width Westy bed and a kitchen unit along the bulkhead. We have one Bluebird awning but are on the look out for another as then we could camp with one either side of the van!

It's about van number 5 (or is it 6) for us and we have loved them all, the best of all being 'Charlie' a lovely fully loaded Westfalia which we restored from scratch but decided to sell as we decided what with kids and dogs etc it would get wrecked. Thats when we bought this one which is great for us, 2 kids, one on the way and 3 dogs! (Also means we have enough proper seatbelts for everyone including the one on the way as there is a double passenger seat up front.)

Unfortunately, he's been having some pretty major work done over the past few weeks and we are biting our nails to see if we get him back before we go away on the 28th!

We were scanning some vans for sale last night and the prices seem to have dropped significantly since this time last year. We were thinking of changing for a walk-through model next year, but I think we've decided that once the work is finished we would have such good all round bus we would be hard pressed to replace it within our price range. DH has mooted the possibility of getting a wedgey but I'm afraid our hearts just aren't in it.

We toured West Ireland over the summer a few years back (back when we had one 1yr old and 2 dogs!) and it was fantastic, definitely our best trip yet.

We are (hopefully) off to Cornwall and then Pembrokeshire during the summer this year.

i am in my first year campervanning. have a 1991 VW california with westfalia conversion. have spent a grand total of 35 nights in it so far. just back from our 'biggie' to normandy / brittanny for 3 weeks. found that v tough going tbh. the toughest bit is waking up in the morning and there is just no space to even start getting organised in. on the days when it was raining i didn't even want to wake up! the ds's are only 4 and 8 months though so suppose it could get easier (please tell me it will). all of our shorter trips were in scotland and they were great. next year we have resolved to stay in the uk, shorter trips, and take a tent
