I know that there are other review websites but I trust Mumsnetters

I have had some reviews but would like some others I have tried to find the tents sufgested to me but they aren't in local suppliers so wanted some others so we can look at them as well as on www. iyswim

I really like the ones suggested but I want to be sure cos we are real novices

We want a tent approx 6m x 5m in size {to fit on the flat area in our garden {with loads of room inside}

It could be longer but would need to be narrow at the end.

RT I am no camping expert but my db swears by his Decathlon tent which was a bargain price.It amply serves him and his wwife and 3 dcs.I think the brand name is Quechua??Good value if you are on a budget anyway,and easy to put up,apparently.

how many does it need to sleep?

and how much dosh you got to spend

Sleep DH and me and DS who is 13 years old

And prob loads and loads of junk!!!!

Also DS wants it for sleepovers in garden with up to 14 teenagers

They will use the living areas for sleeping so it needs to have an enclosed groundsheet iyswim

So really a 6 person tent with lots of room inside

I would like big windows so it sin't claustrophic inside

Also we were going to spend up to £200 but I have a feeling we need to go to £300

We are completely new with it all and can't find tents to look at in RL as well as online

but it is well over your budget. You might find one on ebay perhaps? Loads of room inside and lovely big windows/lots of doors so not claustrophobic.

We recently bought a Coleman Columbia 10 man tent from Costco for £100 + vat. The main problem so far is that we've not managed to erect it, lol. But it looks good in the picture on the box.

we have this have used it for 3 years. it stands up really well in torrential rain and strong wind. has doen nw scotland and france and anywhere in between. once you get the hang of it is easy to put up. v. heavy and not small when in storage.

we have a outwell montana 6...it sounds like it fits your bill

Gelert Tahoma 6-

took a bit to put up but other tahn that afabulous tent in all ways, good construction and seemed well insulated. Highly recomended if you want a geodesic shape. Very stable, of course.

Khyam Ontario 8- I loved it, DH loved it, we all did. We convinced ourselves ours was weather jinxed but that was making excuses to go shop [bad Peachy].
size is incre3diblw, and amazingly easy to piych. caropets and canopy are available, and the canopy is especially recommended as it makes a complete difference. A mary Popins tent- practically perfect in every way LOL

Outwell Sun Valley 8- we bought this recently and only trialled it once. Not as easy to pitch as the Ontario because of all the extra stability poles, took two compared to one on the Khyam. You can feel the quality with the window construction etc and it seems to be a tent that a lot of thought has gone in to at very stage.

We've got one of these - Lichfield Arapaho at the moment. And you could probably get it cheaper than the £120 which the link shows. It's ok - plenty of room inside. DH says it's not difficult to put up. It doesn't have a sewn in groundsheet though, and we have had rain drip off the bottom of the flysheet into the main living area.

I think we're about to get a Gelert Horizon which has a little skirt around it (!) which should stop the dripping problem, and a sewn in groundsheet to help get rid of some of the drafts. So more weather proof. Will cost about £70 more than the Lichfield but definitely worth it. Looks similar.

Would be interested to know what features we could expect on a similar sized tent again for a further £70, say £250. All a bit of a mystery really, these tent specs.

Kanga can you get to Norfolk from where you are?

We went to a place at the weekend and they have loads of tents out in a field on display.

We have a Vango Diablo 400. Officially it sleeps 4, we sleep 5 in it. it has a SIG in the middle section, and a porch without SIG. And two small bedrooms. This is our fourth summer with it. it is good, functional, easy and quick to put up and down. 20-30 mins for one competent adult to put up. Quick enough for weekend camping but big enough for a whole week too.

Cost about £250 new I think. we like it.

but I don't get excited by tent details. it's just a good useful simple tent.

This is the place if anyone can get to Norwich. Loads of tents out on display in a field.

Large sleeping area that can be divided into two seperate rooms using the zip around divider and a huge living space, lots of windows and I can certainly recommend its weather proof-ness as we were camping in Cornwall last week in the rain (a months worth in 24 hours!) and very strong winds.
It held up wonderfully, no leaks and it didnt blow away unlike my parents gazebo we were chasing at 4am
