a 'pup tent'?

a little tent that you pitch close to your normal tent. The kind of thing kids might stay in if they want to feel important and inndependent.

Slubberdegullion · 10/07/2008 18:28

stands for pop up tent, and as Dartmoor says they tend to be the little 1 or 2 man ones you see pitched next to bigguns, or at festivals.

PrettyCandles · 11/07/2008 14:40

So when a campsite website says "No pup tents except by arrangement with site manager", do they mean that you can only have one tent per pitch?

I thought pup tent meant a tent for a dog - like a sort of travelling kennel! But it didn't quite make sense in the context.

A pup tent is a small version of a ridge tent intended for 2 or 3 people. It usually has a rectangular floor of size ranging from 4 ft by 6 ft up to 6 ft by 8 ft, and ridge heights ranging from 3 ft up to 5 ft. The side walls are usually about 1 ft high. There are guy ropes for each pole, at each corner, and in the centre of each side, and these guy ropes help to maintain the required shape. Earlier versions had a single upright pole at each end, while later versions often have two poles at each end, arranged rather like an 'A' shape, in order to make access easier. Some models have a horizontal ridge pole joining the tops of the end poles to support the centre of the tent.

that's the wiki definition. Sorry slubbers but you made me with your Pop U P

Slubberdegullion · 11/07/2008 20:30

but it stands for Pop Up doesn't it? I'm sure thats FACT on ukcs.

Otherwise it would be just a 1 man ridge tent...or a OMRT tent.

(Omrt is a noise that I make if I come out of my understairs cupboard at an obtuse angle and graze my T12 vertebrae on the low down door frame btw)

Whizzz · 11/07/2008 20:32

It'sn ot a tent for a small dog then

Lucycat · 11/07/2008 20:33

I'm with you slubber on the pop up malarkey - dd's did think a real pup lived in one last summer when we were doing our tour of the site and spotted one.....

I ahve seen a Rottweiler in his own tent though.

Lucycat · 11/07/2008 20:34

he was with 'people' though - not camping on his own.

lol at little camping stove with dog frying bacon......

MehgaLegs · 11/07/2008 20:34

PC - are you going to Tristram in Polzeath too or do most campsites have that rule? trsitram has a lot of rules.

I thought it meant small pop up tent for kids.

Whizzz · 11/07/2008 20:35

Blimey - a Rottweiler deserves it's own tent!

Lucycat · 11/07/2008 20:36

especially when the owners had a Bear Lake - I struggle to let the dd's in Lakey!

Slubberdegullion · 11/07/2008 20:39

Now this is a tent for a dog

Yes, I have the catalogue by my loo. Yes I have considered it for a camping alternative to the naughty step.

Whizzz · 11/07/2008 20:40
Grin
Slubberdegullion · 11/07/2008 20:42

I like that that tent is for a Mountaneering Dog. Heavens only knows where you'd put a lard arsed dog that mostly enjoyed playing on the x-box and eating natchos.

mamasaid · 11/07/2008 20:47

What's a Bear Lake, LC?

Slubberdegullion · 11/07/2008 20:50

OH NO! Youv'e opened the floodgates mamasaid. Now Lucycat will be going on and on and on about the Outwell Lakes and their plaid curtains, and how lovely and stong and brave and spacious they are.

Slubberdegullion · 11/07/2008 20:51

Bear Bloody Lake

Lucycat · 11/07/2008 20:52

Lucycat · 11/07/2008 20:55

Slubberdegullion · 11/07/2008 20:59

awww, well you're not too bad yourself LC.

You know and I was so trying to start a friday night classic kick off on a camping thread (a first).

Polycottons vs Canvas vs Nylon: the gloves are OFF!

will never happen. Campers are far to chilled out for such things.

Slubberdegullion · 11/07/2008 21:00

I have had a large cider so if you fancy a tent ruck, I'm game.

Lucycat · 11/07/2008 21:04

i'm on the pink vino tonight!

Slubberdegullion · 11/07/2008 21:06

I thought as much. Only the polycotton weaklings would drink pink wine.
