I have a question for you - the knowledgeable campers!

We are moving soon, our new house has a downstairs shower and basin. Upstairs there is a toilet but no basin.

What would be the ideal solution hygiene wise do you think?
Is there such a thing as a portable sink.....

If ds gets up at night to go to the loo and goes downstairs to wash his hands he will never go back up again to bed.

TIA for all ideas offered!

a wet flannel in a plastic bowl?

Yurtgirl · 07/07/2008 20:29

Furrycat - the house is rented so whilst Id love to the landlord might have something to say about that!

NDTH I was thinking antibac stuff but now you are making me think again

ivy I like the flannel and bowl idea but am wondering where to put it, to avoid dd splashing it all over the carpet

Old fashioned jug and bowl like they used to use in the olden days

Whizzz · 07/07/2008 20:31

Wet wipes ??

Yurtgirl · 07/07/2008 20:36

Giddykipper - that idea is my absolute favourite, an old fashioned washstand, with floral jug and bowl.

Not sure how that works with two lo's under 7 though

Are wetwipes better than antibac gel do'ya'think

Perhaps I should just have wetwipes and a bin then

As well as encouraging them to wash their hands properly whenever they go downstairs in the daytime

What about this....

wash n go sink

fuzzywuzzy · 07/07/2008 21:43

wet wipes?

Lovesdogsandcats · 07/07/2008 21:57

Your ds gets up to use loo in the night and washes his hands ?
Mine is still so half asleep he can barely walk in a straight line, never mind wash his hands

Yurtgirl · 07/07/2008 22:09

Well he probably doesnt wash his hands tbh - but I want to wash mine! And I have no real inclination to trot down the stairs at 2am if I dont have to!

Scrappydappydoo - that is fabulous I even have the perfect table to put it on, I just need to find out whether there is a suitable space to put it!

Thankyou for your suggestions all

if you get one of those sinks scrappy linked, look in a local camping shop before you buy, ours had one of those in last time i went for £20-£25

Skribble · 12/07/2008 10:33

I like that little sink very handy for camping too.

teslagirl · 19/07/2008 20:16

Alcohol gel pump top. Like they use in hospitals. Think you can get them in chemists. Fine for a short term solution (and for camping!)

kerryk · 20/07/2008 12:59

you can get portable sink units. we have one at my nursery as we need to wash the childrens hands with clean running water rather than a bowl of water.
