Airbed or self inlating mattress?

Hi all - what do you all recommend for two people? We have one of those aerobed things which is reasonably comfortable I suppose but a bit bulky to pack in the car and there is always that problem of when one person moves the other one gets bounced around! We have our own individual sleeping bags and I was wondering if we would be better off with either a double or two single self inflating mattresses - but are they really that comfy? They sort of look too thin to be comfy but the website blurb says they are. MN camping jury opinion needed please!

I've just invested in a couple of self inflating mattresses after waking up last year on a half inflated air bed. Haven't actually been camping with them yet but spent a night on my mum's floor last week and it was very very comfy.

does anyone mind if I resurrect this thread?
I had a really bad back at the end of last years holiday thanks to sleeping on a 1/2 inflated mattress.
I've never even seen a self inflated mattress, other than on t'internet....
Are they comfy?
Really?

I have just bought us some fat airics. I don't like air beds because the go flat. I've got some fantastic camp beds, but they take up a lot of space and are a real faff to put up.

I'm expecting them to arrive next week and I'll tell you what they rae like

we have thin airics and they are good - fat airics would be wonderful MB (unfortunately we can't fit them in the campervan though!)

That would be great MB. Thanks....

We have a cheap blow-up air bed from a French supermarket and it is VERY comfy! Velvety on the side you sleep on. And we have an electric blower to inflate it which we charge up before we leave for out 3 week hol.

Tip is to inflate till really hard! And don't get an air bed with an integral pillow - take your own!

DS recently bought a slim Airic for Glastonbury and was very pleased with it.

We slept on our new fat airics this weekend and thought they were fab.
They do self inflate a bit but need to be topped up.
