calling all camping mn's, can anyone recomend a tent?

hello , does anyone have a gelert lokon vario 6? thinking of buying, want to know if it's any good, or can anyone recomend a six berth, where we can all sleep in 1 bedroom (dc's are very small). budget about £200, will be camping for a week at a time, so need a fair bit of room.

The Gelerts are as good as any, I don't think that they have a sig (or do they?) but you will have enough room for 4(?) of you.

and a tunnel design will be easier for you to pitch with littlies.

I'll be back when I've sorted out the dd's tea and had another cuppa myself

Yes, i think it has got a sig, there are 4 of us, so i thought a 6 man would give us enough room??
Someone has told me tunnels aren't very stable, but we are only planning summer camps in Norfolk.....

Decathalon has great tents - not too price - if you live anywhere near one. We have this one and have been very comfortable in it, although there are only 3 of us.

They also have a six person tent with 2 bedrooms side by side. here

this one is good
It has really come down in price too from when I got one, its just over your budget but well worth it.
It has large sleeping area at the back that divides into 2 and also a large living area.

The Decathalon 6 man would be good, but I really want 1 big bedroom or a removable divider, the outwell looks fab, but an extra £100 is a bit too much over budget.

I would get a tenty with 2 bedrooms that can be zipped into one large one. That way in a few years time when they are a little bigger you will all get a good sleep

never had the lokon but have had a gelert and would rate the quality good if that helps

there's one called a montreal (think it's a khyam) which looks great. Not sure about price, but they make very good tents apparently. There are loads of tent reviews on ukcampsite.com which are very useful.

Thanks all for advice, we're going to stay with friends for the weekend, who live close to a tent showroom thingy, we'll see what we can find.

We used to have a Gelert Lokon Vario 6 and were really pleased with it.

If you can remember can you tell me-
is the living area quite large ie; table chairs, room for an active 4yo
does it have a sig or is it removable? does this even matter? (I am a bit of a novice in camping matters and this will be our first tent)

Well we bought ours about 6 years ago so they may have changed the design a bit but ours didn't have a SIG (accept for the bedrooms). It was very spacious inside and standing height in the bedrooms as well as the living area. Plenty of room for us and dh is 6'4" and ds has ADHD so very busy.

A SIG is really a matter of choice tbh. We have one now but I was quite happy not having one for the 4 years we used the Gelert. If you really can't stand and little bugs etc or are camping early or late in the season then I'd say get a tent with a SIG but otherwise I think that having the right space etc is more important.

We love tunnel tents and all ours have been this shape. Loads of space without the associated problems of the overly large footprints that many dome tents have. We got extra guyropes for our Gelert due to one very windy trip but with those extra ropes and decent pegs it coped with a real battering.

I can't recommend looking around a display enough though. We had our hearts set on a dome tent when we first bought a tent and hadn't even considered a tunnel tent. Then after looking around a couple of displays we realised that a tunnel tent would suit us much better and we've never looked back.

Thanks again Will check out tent display this weekend, but I've already looked at their website, so I know they don't have the gelert in stock, hence wanting some feedback from someone who has one.

Sunncamp used to do a model that was very similar to the Gelert Lokon Vario - in fact I think theirs was called a vario too.

Have just googled it, and they do and it looks lovely.....and it's 350 quid

Yes I had a look too - it used to be a similer price to the Gelert but looks fancier now and has a side porch. I think that inide it will be fairly similar though so if the display you are going to has one it might be worth looking around inside it anyway.

Actually looking more closely at the new model it is much bigger now than it was before.

Just in case anyone cares, went to tent display, fell in love with the outwell montana, and will just have to cough up the extra cash thanks for all your advice.
