What do I need for a 40 day camping trip throughout Scandinavia and Poland?

After we sold our campervan, and not been able to replace it, we are buying a tent.

We are a family of 4, our boys are 3 and 6 years old. We will go from the far north of Norway, through Sweden and Finland, to Gdansk in Poland, then on to Warsaw. (and back)

What do we bring?
Tent? Camping table and chairs? Cold box?

I am a camping novice.

What tent are you buying?

QuintessentialShadows · 30/06/2008 18:10

I have no idea. I am thinking a six sleeper ....

Recommendations?

cewrtainly a tent which goes up quickly, you dont want to be faffing with thousands of guy ropes every day. a cooker and gas, saucepans, sleeping bags etc, plates, cutlery, water carrier.

It depends on how much you want to spend and how much room you have in the car. Also how long you will be staying in each place.

QuintessentialShadows · 30/06/2008 18:14

A few days in each place. We have an estate.

I am thinking lavvo

or this

They both look nice You definitely want something quick and easy to pitch. Will you have a trailer/roof box or will it all need to fit in the boot?

QuintessentialShadows · 30/06/2008 18:17

I have to go as my 3 year old is moaning. I will check back later. If you have any recommendations I would appreciate it.

No roofbox. Might buy one in Poland, as even Thule is quite cheap there.

My recommendation?

Skip Warsaw. It's horrible. Head for Krakow instead.

Buy a couple of lightweight hammocks. They're fun, a good place to chill, keep the kids entertained while you're pitching the tent and make a comfortable seat too, provided there are trees where you stop lol

I have to go now too but if you post your requirements - polyester/polycotton/canvas; SIG? Price range etc I'm sure we can find a selection for you

I cant skip Warsaw. Visiting MIL and family. This will be our third summer holidaying in Poland, in addition to short trips to Warsaw, and being invited on dhs best friends honeymoon to Zakopany which was fun. In short, have been to Poland on numerous occasions. Agree about Krakow and the south but as we have been there a few times already, we will skip it this time.

We will go from Gdansk to the Hel peninsula which is lovely. Thereafter to Mazury for a few days on the way to Warsaw.

Do tents come in different fabrics? I am such a novice.
We need to be able to put it up quickly!

lol yes they do. Canvas and polycotton are harder wearing and stronger than polyester but they are heavier and are bigger when packed up. I think for your needs a polyester tent will probably be better (although slubber may disagree)

If you want a tent thats quick to put up then Khyam do a variety of quick pitch tents but they are quite pricey.
