Those earnest types on ukcs are making me anxious. Do you have a big knife under your pillow to cut your way out of your tent then?

Because they do. Special knifes for instant evacuation. Some have even practiced evacuation plans. They are all so good and sensible over there.

And I don't have a fire bucket.

I don't have a pillow to keep a knife under.

i have knife which i keep in a pocket by my sleeping bag.. but no fire bucket

why would you want to cut yourself out of your tent please?

Its so you can get out quickly in case there's a fire. We don't do either but do have a mini-tool thing which has a knife on it and hangs on our car keys which we keep in the bedroom at night.

I have a fire bucket (but only bought one this year). I can't remember whether it was C&C club rules or Pennine Owners Club rules that required fire bucket.

Tis nothing exciting - just an empty red bucket that we fill up with water when we arrive and leave by the unit just in case

Don't have an escape knife though!

Ok so so far the mn camping fraternity have:

1 exit knife
1 mini tool
1 fire bucket

and Yeni doesn't even have a pillow.

So we aren't very prepared over here are we?

I have a retractable stanley knife type thing - well dh does,that he keeps in the pocket near his head! We also have a fire extinguisher.

oh and I have just bought a family pack of high-vis jackets for £7 from tesco as apparantely they are compulsory for driving in France after 5th July this year!

so what with the Green Card, European breakdown as well.....

you have to wear a high vis jacket when you are driving in a car. What all of you?

Could get sweaty wearing them, I hope you have aircon.

Do you need to then carry something else to protect you against knife attacks?

No to sun. I did rescue a mummy duck and 9 ducklings from imminent death this morning, and I think the wildlife saviour euphoria has sent me over the edge a bit.

after having a quick visit over ther i decided i needed a fire extinguisher. you lot put me right though
DH did when he came camping with us last time because i took the mallet to bed with me though.

I'm roffling away at the thought of Nigella bludgeoning her tent in a fit of pique.

We read about this knife thing under your pillow before we went camping last year. DH duly stuck knife under his pillow.

Nearly resulted in me coming a cropper as I made the mistake of climbing over him to reach my beeping phone in the middle of the night, woke him up, he thought I was an intruder, lashed out shouting something like "woooooorraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" - I somersaulted backwards across him and two sleeping children fearing the wrath of DH "Slasher" Kbear.

I documented it clearly on here last summer, is funny now but could have ended in tears!

I remember that thread Kbear. Was very funny. I think I'll be keeping any tent weapons, my DH would also be a liability.

After that godawfulrainycrapweek holiday DH has vowed never to go camping again.

If I kept a knife under my pillow I'd puncture the air-mattress, a MUCH more distressing thought than imaginary knife-wielding looneys.

Feetheart wanders off pondering whether corkscrew could be used for emergency evacuation purposes.

I only go camping with Troutpout so after she has cut herself out of her tent she can swiftly dash over and dramatically rescue me by cutting me out of my tent with her special knife (note to Troutpout: please only do this if my tent has actually caught fire as well, as I am very bad at sewing).

I don't have a knife or bucket for camping. However I was reading a most interesting thread the other day on ukcs - (how sad are we) about pee-ing in a bucket with cat litter to soak up the pee. Was quite inspirational!

Soren but what if you are on fire and Troutpout is a deep sleeper, or worse still in mid crouch over bucket (with lid)?
