Smoke Smell on Gear?

After watching so much outdoor boys and other YouTubers winter camping, I got so obsessed with it I finally gave it a shot. The biggest concern I have after doing it in person is the smell of smoke that stays not only on clothes, but other gear as well, making me worry about what to wear near the fire as well as when I get in my sleeping bag so my clothes/skin doesn’t bring in the smell of smoke in my sleeping bag (smoke/metallic taste inside REI Magma 15, was not a fan of that smell while I slept). How do you guys manage that?

I don't have a fire that often, and cannot get my head around how many folk do when camping in 20*c summer heat! There are for a reason - warmth and cooking - and only work with dry wood that should not smoke much. So I only use them sparingly these days.
When I do, keep the smoke down and sit out of it.
Don't sit round a fire in your sleeping bag - a sleeping bag should only ever be in a tent or it's bag, never outside.

And of course after a day of sweating up a mountain or roasting while paddling a river there are all sorts of other odours to hide it...
And then I wash my kit - waterproofs get an annual Graingers wash and treatment, all else goes in the normal wash.

Ivy yet to sit around a campfire and it not know exactly where I am so it can smoke me, no matter what the wind direction is.
