Oh bugger, rain forecast all week. Should we still go?

Meant to be going to Hawes, Yorkshire Dales tomorrow but the weather isn't looking good .

It's the first time we're taking ds (2.4).

Should we still go do you reckon?

Yup. And the water came through the ground sheet of my new pop up tent.

Lucycat · 01/06/2008 14:26

yuk! that'll be a bugger to get out - lots of scrubbing a sunny day methinks.

We were in S Devon just south of Exeter and I did wonder whether any mnetters were at Sunrise.

Slubberdegullion · 01/06/2008 14:27

Oh Spidermama, that sounds really awful. How crappy that they let you in and pitch and then decided to cancel. buggers.

Lucycat, Hawes is quite hilly (mwah mwah)

Here are some ideas for things to do so you're not just stuck in tent all week

Bolton castle

farm place

little bit further away but lovely!
does ds like trains by any chance?

fullmoonfiend · 01/06/2008 14:29

oh gods spidermama - we wanted to go to that this year but decided not to as we are too skint So sorry for you...

Spidermama · 01/06/2008 14:33

Thanks FMF. I was gutted as it's agreat festival. They reckon they'll re-schedule it this season but I can't see it happening myself.

Oddly enough, the kids absolutely loved the whole thing. Being thigh deep in mud, then being rescued by a tractor (all cars had to be individually towed) so it was still worth it, despite the conditions.

DH was to be joining me next day but his soon became a rescue mission.

Pheonix I think you're right to go anyway. It's still fantastic to spend so much time out doors. It gets you fit and is uplifting whatever the weather.

The aftermath is bad though. I'm praying for sunshine now to dry my stinky kit.

fullmoonfiend · 01/06/2008 18:21

Spidermama just for you, to recapture that festie vibe

Phoenix · 01/06/2008 19:12

Right ds is in bed asleep and all our camping stuff is in the middle of the living room ready to go in the roof box in the morning

NO WELLIES

I think you need to pop into an outdoor outfitters and get some on your way there.

Wellies

or

crocs

fullmoonfiend · 01/06/2008 19:46

fingers crossed for you, Phoenix, for some ok weather!

fatzak · 01/06/2008 20:54

Have a great time Phoenix! We went in the end up to the Lakes and had a fab time at Fisherground. We had put it off day after day because of the forecast but people we were chatting to who had been there all week said the weather had been great all week. Grrr.
I was so surprised how warm we were on a night. We had a fleece blanket on the ground, then airbeds, then DS1 had a cocoon sleeping bag with another one unzipped over the top, DS2 was in his grobag and in a cocoon bag and we just had a double sleeping bag. Didn't feel any cold at all!

Did spend all weekend spotting possible MNetters though

hotcrossbunny · 04/06/2008 12:25

Just got back from the New Forest. We had a lovely time, but it threw it down ysterday while we were taking the tent down. In fact, it rained all night too, and we found out we had a stream running throught he middle of the tent Fortunately the bedrooms stayed warm and dry. We slipped and slid through inches of mud, which is now covering much of the tent. Its draped outside round the garden drying as I type.

There is no way our pitch was a suitable tent pitch Lovely site, but we were really unlucky. A lovely caravanner took pity on us and made us a cuppa

WendyWeber · 04/06/2008 12:29

Well it's a gorgeous day here today and we're not so far from Hawes - about 30 miles - so I hope Phoenix is getting it too

hcb, that sounds horrendous Hope you can get all the mud off once it's dry.

Phoenix · 06/06/2008 11:58

Hello. We're back from Hawes

Monday night and Tuesday were very wet. The tent material isn't very good (2000) and leaked slightly but not in the bedroom area and it was only the odd drip in not continual leaks, thank god. But we still really enjoyed it. There's a few pictures on my profile.

Monday night was ok but Tuesday and Wednesday were freezing but ds slept ok. We made use of all the extra blankets we took.
